This is a complete marketing gimmick trying to exploit what remains of the low carb diet fad.
People! Think!

•Alcohol is not a carbohydrate.

• Your body processes alcohol first, before fat, protein, or carbs. Thus drinking slows down the burning of fat. This could account for the weight gain seen in some studies.

• Hard liquor is distilled and thus contains no carbohydrates. The current “Zero Carb” campaign for rum, vodka and whiskey is baloney and may encourage mindless consumption. It’s like bragging that a candy bar is “cholesterol-free.”

there is zero sugar and/or carbs in rum. and ditto in the diet cola.

My mom is a diabetic and this drink is listed in one of her diabetic carb counting books and listed as 0 carb/0 sugar.

same thing with wine as well. 70 cal per 5 oz serving, and only 1gram or less of carbs.

Alcohol doesn't have sugar but when metabolized by the body turns into sugar. So they can make the claims that they do.

Liquor doesn't have sugar, it has alcohol sugars which is something entirely different.

Any hard liquor coupled with a diet soda will have zero calories and zero carbs

That's wrong.

Alcohol will yield 7kcal per gram, which is even more than the energy yielded should you eat carbs or protein (4kcal/g).
