Those Denominations as a "whole" are apostate. They have departed from the Faith. Though there may some true Christians in them. Therefore, they are called the "Frozen Chosen". That is, people who SAY they are Christians but are very "lukewarm" or "cold" when it comes to living for Christ, or telling people about Him. Also, it can refer to anyone who calls themself a "christian" but who really show no interest in seriously living for Jesus. Most folks in the "Chosen Frozen" catagory are probably not Christians at all in the eyes of the Lord, and will be among that group that Jesus refered to when He says to them, "Depart from me, I NEVER knew you"......theBerean

This is an insulting nickname given to those whose interpretation of the Bible agrees with Reformed theology, specifically concerning predestination, which states that God alone brings those whom he has chosen to saving faith, and not for any merit of their own. Hence, they are "chosen." "Frozen" is meant to be an insult describing the church services of such people as too serious or solemn. Reformed theology is held in church denominations such as Christian Reformed, Orthodox Presbyterian, Presbyterian Church in America, Congregationalists (Puritans), and many Baptists as well as others. Predestination and unconditional election are taught in the Bible in verses such as Matthew 24:31, John 6:37-39, John 6:65, John 17:9, Romans 8:28-33, Romans 9:11, Romans 11:5, Ephesians 1:4-5, Ephesians 1:11, 1 Thessalonians 1:4-5, 1 Thessalonians 5:9, 2 Thessalonians 2:13, 2 Timothy 1:9, 1 Peter 1:2, and 1 Peter 2:9.

It's a description of the stereotype of the Episcopalian or Presbyterian service... Listen to the lay leaders, mumble some songs, listen to the sermon, shuffle up to get a cracker, mumble some more songs, and take off for brunch. Pentecostals speak in tongues, get up and dance and sing, and even the Catholics have that stand-up-sit-down-fight-fight-fight action in their Mass.

"Frozen Chosen" also implies an elderly and immobile congregation to me - I'd ballpark my grandparents' Episcopal church congregation as having an average age of sixty.

I would think that is a term used by those who believe in predestination- that everyones fate is predetermined and only certain ones are chosen by God to enter into the kingdom of heaven, however it is not true. Everyone has to choose if they will follow the Lord and accept His gifts of love.

The Frozen Chosen I am familiar with has nothing to do with religion; it centers on Korea's winters that can be bitterly cold and numbing of spirit.
