The Book of Mormon is a record of God's dealings with the people who lived in the ancient Americas. Prophets of the Lord engraved the original records on gold plates. On September 22, 1827, an angel named Moroni—the last Book of Mormon prophet—delivered these records to the Prophet Joseph Smith. By the gift and power of God, the Prophet Joseph translated the record into English.
This is a brief explanation http://scriptures.lds.org/en/bm/explanation

There will be many who say it is false and many who know it is the most correct book on the earth - such as myself.
I challenge you to read it. Know for yourself if it is true or not, don't just take a person's word for it...

I would share with you what the Prophet Moroni wrote in the last chapter of the Book of Mormon:
Moroni 10:4-7
4 And when ye shall receive these things, I would exhort you that ye would ask God, the Eternal Father, in the name of Christ, if these things are not true; and if ye shall ask with a sincere heart, with real intent, having faith in Christ, he will manifest the truth of it unto you, by the power of the Holy Ghost.
5 And by the power of the Holy Ghost ye may know the truth of all things.
6 And whatsoever thing is good is just and true; wherefore, nothing that is good denieth the Christ, but acknowledgeth that he is.
7 And ye may know that he is, by the power of the Holy Ghost; wherefore I would exhort you that ye deny not the power of God; for he worketh by power, according to the faith of the children of men, the same today and tomorrow, and forever.

I have personally taken that challenge and know the Book of Mormon is true and that a person may become closer to the Lord by reading and living by its teachings than by any other way.

Even experts have read the book and said tht no man could have written it, as some rumors indicate. as uneducated as he was, he couldnt have written it. It was translated by the power of God. I dont know what you have heard but thats the truth.

Joseph Smith, while praying to find out what he should do to truly worship God in the way God would have him worship, was visited by a heavenly messenger who informed that the the early inhabitants of the Americas where a people of God and who believed in Christ. They were visited by Christ, here in the Americas after Christ's death and resurrection. Christ had told the inhabitants of the Holy Land (Israel) before his death that he had "other sheep that are not of this fold. They too I must bring..." John 10:16 .This was reference to other people that lived outside of Jeruslam that Christ wished to visit and preach his Gospel to.
Joseph Smith was informed by this messenger that ancient plates hidden in a hill contained the record of these ancient American inhabitants and that upon these plates, God's word was recorded.
Joseph was led to the location where the plates had been deposited by the last prophet who wrote his record on the plates had deposited them. After several years, Joseph finally was allowed by God to unearth the plates, and through God's power and authority, Joseph was able to translate the plates and from that translation comes the Book of Mormon.
It is now translated in over 158 differnet languages.
The Book of Mormon, is believed to by members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, to be a companion volumne to the Bible. It does not replace the Bible by any means, but is "another testament of Jesus Christ" along with the Bible.

THE
BOOK OF MORMON
AN ACCOUNT WRITTEN BY

THE HAND OF MORMON

UPON PLATES

TAKEN FROM THE PLATES OF NEPHI
Wherefore, it is an abridgment of the record of the people of Nephi, and also of the Lamanites—Written to the Lamanites, who are a remnant of the house of Israel; and also to Jew and Gentile—Written by way of commandment, and also by the spirit of prophecy and of revelation—Written and sealed up, and hid up unto the Lord, that they might not be destroyed—To come forth by the gift and power of God unto the interpretation thereof—Sealed by the hand of Moroni, and hid up unto the Lord, to come forth in due time by way of the Gentile—The interpretation thereof by the gift of God.
An abridgment taken from the Book of Ether also, which is a record of the people of Jared, who were scattered at the time the Lord confounded the language of the people, when they were building a tower to get to heaven—Which is to show unto the remnant of the House of Israel what great things the Lord hath done for their fathers; and that they may know the covenants of the Lord, that they are not cast off forever—And also to the convincing of the Jew and Gentile that JESUS is the CHRIST, the ETERNAL God, manifesting himself unto all nations—And now, if there are faults they are the mistakes of men; wherefore, condemn not the things of God, that ye may be found spotless at the judgment-seat of Christ.

this will give you a record of how this book came to be today.

The Book of Mormon is a real record of the saints in the Americas, and is supported by archeological data. But, even more important, is know to be true by those who have prayed to God, and have recieved this testimony for themselves. I am one of thoe people, and KNOW that it is true.

The plates that ancient American prophets kept the record of their people on. They were buried after Moroni, the last of his people, wandered for many years. They were then delivered to Joseph Smith, and he translated them by the power of God.

At the time, Joseph Smith wrote the Book, there were many religious revivals and changes going on. Smith was also a Freemason later in life and the temple rituals are almost exact copies of masonry ritual. He also incorporated some ancient rites of the goddess in the temple ritual.

There is no proof that the "golden plates" ever existed, so you are asked to take it on faith that the book is true for you.

A little America-pre-european invasion history debunks the whole premise of the book.

A Mormon will say that Joseph Smith was led to a cave by the angel Moroni where he was shown golden tablets with hieroglyphics on them. And he was provided with some magic spectacles called Urim and Thumim, which enabled him to read the tablets. After he was done the angel took the tablets to heaven. The originals cannot be produced.

Parts of it were plagiarized from the Old Testament. I think it was written by some guy Smith knew.
