They are always in his rear view, why is that?

Like it or not, Tony Stewart is the face of Nascar along with Dale Jr. No one likes Jimmy Gordon or Jeff Johnson!! (Yes, I know it's really Jimmy Johnson, and Jeff Gordon, but what difference does it make, they look the same, whine the same) Unalike Tony, Jeffey and his little understudy can only drive nascar. Tony can win in ANYTHING with wheels. As DW said this weekend, figure out how to put wheels on a cockroach, and Tony Stewart will figure out how to win with it!! Tony has been a champ in ANY field of racing that he's entered, his rep speaks for him!!! Lets see Jeffey, and Jimmy do that! And heaven help you if you see the orange 20 in your rearview mirror on Sunday!

I wouldn't say that Tony is better than either of them. Tony has been sucessful in all types of race cars, and Gordan has experience racing many different types (he, too, came from open wheel). Johnson has the least amount of experience, since he was into motocross before an injury took him out of it. He only has stock car experience. I think that are all pretty close talent wise, and I'll even give you that Tony may be more talented than Johnson (I'd put him at a tie with Jeff). However, over the last five years, Jimmie has been the best racer in NASCAR. By far the most consistant, and he only has four less wins than Stewart (25 vs 29) and has earned those in three less years!

The answer is that Gordon and Johnson are the only drivers in Cup that are not always in Stewart's rear-view mirror. All three of these drivers are great racers.

Tony Stewart has won 29 Cup races and two championships. He has won ten other championships in karts, USAC, IRL and IROC. He almost won the Rolex 24 race in a prototype sports car several years ago. He has proved that he can win in any kind of race car.

Jeff Gordon has won 75 races including three Daytona 500's and four Brickyard 400's. He is sixth on the all-time wins list. He is only ten wins away from third on the list. He also has won four Cup championships. Gordon has 55 Cup poles and has won in Busch and in USAC. He has won a USAC Midget championship and was the youngest champion ever in USAC Silver Crown. Like him or not, he must be considered one of the all-time greats.

Jimmie Johnson has won 25 races and one championship. He won a motocross championship when he was eight. He has won championships in three off-road racing series, SODA, SCORE and the Mickey Thompson Entertainment Group series. He is number 20 on the all-time Cup wins list, already. There are only five active drivers with more wins. All this means he is pretty good, as well.

Lets look at winning percentage among active Cup drivers. The three drivers that have the best winning percentage are Gordon (15.69%), Johnson (13.30%) and Stewart (10.03%). By comparison, Dale Earnhardt, Jr.'s winning percentage is only 6.54%. Gordon's winning percentage is third best all-time. He ranks behind two of the best ever, Richard Petty at 16.9% and the great David Pearson at 18.3%.

When you look at what these three drivers have accomplished in their careers and the statistics of where they stand in Cup, all-time and especially among active drivers, there is no denying that all three are great racing drivers. The numbers do not lie.

In the end it gets down to which personality and style you prefer. I like Tony Stewart, but all three are winners.

tony Stewart has more championships all together than the other 2 he has won in every motor sport he ever competed in
he wins on dirt he is former irl champ go cart champ he wins in the outlaw cars.just such a wealth of racing knowledge, with that i believe that Stewart is the best all around racer in racing right now,,i am obviously a Stewart fan since the great dale Sr died,iv been pulling for tony..but will plug Gordon and Jimmie some also even thought i hate Gordon..i mean hate him i think he is huge crybaby just an opinion but think that it wasn't all that long ago he was the best pure stock car driver around,,he just seems to have lost his edge,,and Jimmie Johnson may be the best stock driver of the coming years that remains to be seen..so do i think Stewart is better stock car racer than the others maybe/maybe not but if you look at his over all stats he is most assuredly the best all around racer in modern time..

Tony Stewart is the best driver on the track, hands down. Jimmy Johnson is the only driver that's even close. I met Tony this week at the Home Depot in Pensacola, FL What an awesome guy, he's very personable and friendly.

I am a HUGE Hendrick fan. I will give you "better racer" as far as car control and Tony's other racing platforms. But as far as the best in NASCAR lately. Hands down:

Jimmie Johnson from 2002: 29,627 points
Tony Stewart from 2002: 27,510 points
Jeff Gordon from 2002 : 27,103 points

Stewart and my favorite, Gordon, are over 2,000 points behind over the same amount of time. If everyone is racing for points how do you explain that Tony is better?

I think Tony is a better driver than Gordon right now, but you are wrong about him being a better driver than Jimmie. No driver has won more races than Jimmie since he entered the series. He has won the Daytona 500 without his crew chief and at the Brickyard in the same season along with the cup. Plus, he has finished in the top 5 every year and and might have had a second championship if not for 8 points in 2004. I don't deny that Stewart is dominant and has more experience than Johnson and Gordon, but if I were to start a team I'd run Johnson every week over Stewart based on consistency.

Coming from a driver's stand point...Tony by far.A few reasons. One Tony is a driver's driver he will race anything anywhere and he's can win in any of them.Another thing I like about Tony is he's much like Dale Sr and he can take a non perfect car and still win with it,thats something I have never seen Johnson do and something you very seldom see Jeff do.Don't get me wrong all 3 are good at what they do,but if I'd have to pick between one of the three to drive for me I would go with Tony.

Several years ago Tony attempted the NASCAR BUSCH series with out success. He did not complete his Busch season. He went back to Sprints and other open wheels. The next year he selected certain races, that year he was a much improved driver and caught the eyes of Joe Gibbs.
Gordon had a successful Busch career with a decent team and was ready to go CUP with the blue oval, but something happened and Hendricks signed him to his contract that all terms are not to be released.
Johnson Had a lack luster first year in Busch but took off the next year and the rest is history.
My feelings Tony struggled more to get his ride and has become a better driver for it.
That's all I have to say about that.

" as i recall in the daytona 500 Tony Stewart was 43 (i think) dead last and jimmy was in the top 20 at least So whos the better driver now ......JIMMY JOHNSON!"

As I recall, Tony had the best car that day and would have won if not for the crash. Tony is the best driver in NASCAR right now and will go down as one of the best ever.

Oh and it's Jimmie, not Jimmy. It really annoys me when people don't know how to spell their so called favorite drivers name.
