I know that most guys fear rejection. If a guy knows that he won't see a woman again (for example like at work if they will be working at different companies), will it force him to face his fear of rejection? I am talking about a guy that I work with who looks at me with such an intense look, yet who acts shy around me. He is such a gentleman, he goes out of his way just to hold the door for me. For example, one time he held the door open for about twenty people and I was the last one following all of those people room. I feel shy around him also. He jokes and laughs with his friends, but he looks serious when I come around. I wonder if he will get the nerve to ask me out since we may never see each other again when we both go to different jobs next week.

If you'd like to see him again, why not tell him? Unless you're reading him totally wrong, I can pretty much guarantee he'd be thrilled.

He may not get the nerve and he may not really be looking at you intensely..he may be looking at you and be in deep thought about something else entirely. Ask him "how about a cup of coffee or tea" after the function. This tells him you think he's worth your time, and yet; is only a friendly gesture.

He may be waiting for you to make the first move. If he is that shy he may not ask at all. So....why not just casually mention that when you change jobs next week you're sure gonna miss seeing him around and let him take it from there.

Do YOU have the nerve? Because it seems like you also don't have the courage to act on your feelings. how is anything supposed to happen between the two of you. how about if you were meant for each other and you both are going to just let it go because you are shy?

Maybe you intimidate him. If you like him and he isnt making the first move, I see no reason why you shouldn't! The worst he can say is "No Thank-You" and even that wont really matter being that you are both leave for news jobs in a week. Take a chance, could be worth it! :-D

Just ask him out! If you aren't gonna ever see him again after next week, then it's now or never! Plus, if he refuses, then you don't have to look him in the eye again! It's better to find out then to always wonder what if...
