The dentist will give him pain killers. He will need to be quite for three days. Not a lot of head up and down activity.
three types of dentures- immediate temporary- made with cheap teeth and cheap acrylic. Placed immediately after the extractions. second kind immediate permanent. cheap acrylic good teeth. They are also placed right away, knowing they will have to be relined as his gums and bone recontour. Lastly Permantent dentures. Thse are put in 6-8 weeks after the extractions. They are made after all the healing has taken place. The later require at least six visits one week apart and will cost close to 2-4 k . His choice of denture makes a big difference of when they pull the teeth and the cost involved. 23 extractions wil be no less than 2500 . then he has the cost of the immediate. then the cost of the permanet teeth. Can he go 8 weeks with no teeth? if so , they will be a good fit for him. Immediates act like a bandaid- put they are not comfortable by any means

He should certainly receive both adequate anesthesia and aftercare - pain relief.

I think these days you can have dentures fitted as soon as you want. I am surprised that this hasn't been explained already.

There will be some pain after teeth are extracted. The most difficulty will come from trying to get accustomed to new things in the mouth. The sooner your uncle is fitted for dentures the better. The gums will tend to fit to the dentures. However the dentures may need to be re aligned within a few weeks.

I would urge you though to get a full explanation to what is needed and expected outcome BEFORE he has the treatment. Good luck.

Yes! The dentures will get fitted after the swelling is down, he will only be able to consume foods that do not require chweing until then. I am sorry for your uncle, poor fella. But I have heard of people with diabetes having to do this, I wish your uncle a speedy recovery.

getting a tooth pulled doesn't hurt nearly as much as you'd think. They freeze the gums before they do it, so you don't really feel anything. Then, once the freezing wears off, a pain reliever (ie. aspirin, tylonol, advil) should get rid of most of the pain.

The swelling will probably last for a few days (2 or 3).
