Just a guess, but I'd say the distributor is not communicating with the ECM.

Ignition control modules are fairly inexpensive.
But I'd take it to someone that can do a computer diagnostic. Not just scan codes.

By the way, code 12 means no faults noted.

actually code 12 is a check code is normal code to find in a perfectly fine running auto. is this a tbi motor vin z 8th digit or a vin w? vin w are famed for leaks in the injector or fuel lines under intake. another thing have you checked the plugs to see if they are firing?? a cracked distributor shaft, bad wires, bad plugs could be many different things. I recomend check cap rotor distributor shaft ( the magnet under the rotor) for cracks. where I would start

12 is normal code indicating no crank signal, I'd get a complete tuneup (wires, cap, rotor too) first with delco parts, and go from there. You may have an egr prob.
