Catholics are not fundamentalists because they have self assurance that the Church (and the Pope) has the understanding to interpret the religion. In result, the Church is more suitable significant than scripture, even even with the reality that scripture is significant. that's contemplated interior the actual shown reality that for years the Catholics kept the scriptures and the Mass in Latin, even even with the reality that the effortless guy did not comprehend it. That became no longer for sinister causes, yet because it became understood that the scriptures require interpretation to be properly understood, and in problem-free words the Church might want to do this. those days we've all picked up fairly a present day Protestant view of scripture: that scripture is the finest source of truth. notwithstanding it wasn't continually considered that way. after all, the recent testomony isn't truthfully a itemizing of regulations and ideas written by Jesus. that's a decision of biography, letters and theology, amassed by the Church interior the 4th century. So the Church preceded and definitely created scripture. So of course the Church is truthfully the more suitable authority. Protestantism and somewhat Fundamentalism tries to take authority faraway from the Church because it sees the Church as if truth be told corrupt. It tells each believer to refer decrease back to the 'fundamentals', which will nicely be discovered interior the earliest factors, i.e. the scriptures. that's really a capacity pastime. what's extremely laughable is that the Protestants/Fundamentalists declare that scripture is their sole preparation guide and they haven't any 'faith' as such; only faith. in reality even an casual look at how they pass about their company shows that they have got theology and dogma the picture of the Catholics, only a lot less effortless. And the in problem-free words actual results of having no unmarried company that can outline the creed is that Protestantism continually breaks into further and extra at the same time adverse factions. So, by definition the Catholics aren't any more fundamentalist. BTW i'm an atheist of Protestant extraction, so don't sense i'm attempting to significant up the Catholics right here. only telling it like that's.

I read somewhere that in America alone there are literally thousands of religious denominations. I'd say at least half of those are Christian. There are numerous offshoots of Presbyterianism, Methodism, and given how many Baptists this country has, one can only guess how many different churches they have.

There are approximately 100 new Protestant Christian denominations launched each year.
So the number you're looking for is awfully high.
