If all her family ties are in El Salvador it should be relatively easy. I can't see how an 80 year old would be a big risk to remain in the US illegally. You should contact the US embassy in san salvador for instructions.

There is no reason for the El Salvadorian government not to give a passport to an 80-year-old. An El Salvadorian wanting to visit the United States will need to apply for a visa at the US Embassy in San Salvador.

For an 80 year old to get clearance to travel from El Salvador to the USA its not that difficult. Although you'd have to go through the process of ensuring that she is not a risk of staying in the US illegally (even for those at this age, there are still those regulations). All that includes is stating that she knows people in the US, and what her life is like in El Salvador. Does she own a home? Have income? etc....

Once you hand in your application, you will be told on the spot if your VISA is approved or not. (Just incase of confusion, all this is to be done in El Salvador, by the person who requires the VISA). You must pay to apply for the VISA, I believe the VISA fee is around US$100, and is not refunded if VISA is not accepted.

Once the VISA is approved you must apply for your passport (although i think this may have to be done before VISA application, but i'm not sure if it really matters).
That takes a little bit longer, it's a much longer application and takes a couple of weeks to be prepared and ready for use.

Thats about all the inforamtion i can help you with, my knowledge on this subject is quite limited but i hope it helps.

*If you are really in the need to get this information ASAP, then please dont hesitate to email me. I can ask people who know prices and the step by step process :)

Take Care and God Bless
