We just got back from the vets like 30 minutes ago and we bought one of those cone thingies to put on her head should I put it on all the time?? Won't it be uncomfortable for her when she's sleeping? Is it okay if I take her for a short walk right now cuz she hasn't been to the bathroom since yesterday....and 2 more questions.... can I still give her food 3 times a day (I know it's supossed to be a bit less) and can I give her unlimited water too? Thanks for all the help :)

Hi there I am a Veterinarian Tech and hope to answer your questions!! 1) Yes, keep the cone on her at all times unless you are right there with her to keep on eye on her. You would hate for her to tear her stitches out. You can also take it off when she eats. Make sure to watch her closely! You don't want another visit (and charge!) to the vet. 2) She will adapt while sleeping, most dogs rest their heads on the bottom of it. Do not take it off when she goes to bed unless you plan on staying up to watch her all night. Most post-op patients do the most damage when everyone else is sleeping!! 3) It is not recommended that you walk her at all for atleast 3 days after surgery and you shold not walk her for more than 10 minutes until a week following surgery. Also, if you have a fenced in yard do not let her go out without a leash. You need to keep a close eye on her! 4) Yes, you can feed her as normal starting the day after. You might want to keep her breakfast light to see how she does. 5) Yes, she can have as much water as she wants. Please don't be concerned if her apetite is not like normal for a few days. She just had major surgery and will need time to get back to herself. Good luck and remember to check her incision a few times a day. If you see any extreme redness, swollen areas, or pimple-like bumps, contact your vet... it is most like a allergic reaction to the stitches. I hope this was a help to you! Enjoy your pup!

Did the vet tell you to buy one of those cones? Mine never had those. But yeah it's ok for you to take her out to go to the bathroom but I don't know that i'd walk her--shes going to be very drowsy for a day or so. Probably just sleep the day away and she may walk into doors and stuff. But my dog had no appetite and didn't need to go to the bathroom but yeah let her out so she can if she wants, but I wouldn't really "walk" her.

Yes you can still feed her, though don't be shocked if she doesn't eat. She doesn't feel good. You don't eat when you don't feel good. If she doesn't, don't worry about it. And yes she can have unlimited water.

The cone doesn't have to stay on forever so it's not like you are going to torture her for the rest of her life, but yes if the vet told you to put that around her neck, it has to stay on all the time. B/c as soon as it comes off, shes gonna go at those stitches. Though I'd call and ask if its for 1 day or 2. After 3 days or so, they usually are back to normal. Or actually close enough to back to normal.

You can take the cone off when they sleep but otherwise leave it on. If he has a hard time eating/ drinking you can take it off too! You can also give them food 3 times a day and unlimited water is still good!!!

Yes, keep it on her ALL the time! Otherwise she will pull the stitches out. Your vet should have given you post-surgical care instructions.
