Anytime you have the reaction to something showing itself in the neck/jace area it can be serious and should be treated as such. You did the right think by giving the benadryl right away that probably slowed it down some. Since it has gone down but not left its only from the results of the benadryl. I would suggest going on in to the local ER for a possible injection, because when that benadryl wears off the swelling could very well worsen again. Reactions can sometimes last for hours to several days depending on what the allergic reaction was to. So why take the chance, just go check it out then you won't be worrying every minute the rest of the night and may save more grief.

It is a good idea to call the doctor and speak to someone live who can help you monitor his symptoms. Monitor him closely so you can tell if there is any change in his breathing. If he becomes short of breath or starts wheezing he needs to go to the doctor immediatley!!!! Allergic reactions can spread to the airway quickly. Call the nurse line for the local ER!!!!
Now that the swelling has gone down try to find out what the reaction was to so you can avoid it in the future and make an appt with a doctor so that they can instruct you on what to do if this happens again in the future.

Allergic reaction to what? It would be helpful to know, as Benadryl might not be the simple answer.
In any case, if its bad, he should go see a doctor. Is his throat swollen / is he having difficulty breathing?

It sounds like your dad needs medical attention immediately. If he took Benedryl and it didn't work he may need a shot to atop the allergic reaction. I would get him help asap so it doesn't start to interfere with his breathing!!!
