Yes and No. The front catalyst is called a "Pre-catalyst" in Nissan terminology. The pre-catalyst is used as a scrubber to clean part of the exhaust gasses prior to them reaching the main catalytic converter. The primary catalytic converter is an oxigenating three-way catalytic converter. The pre-cat is a two-way catalyst in that it does not store and release oxygen.as the three way primary catalyst does. it simply uses a catalytic (Chemical) reaction to change the chemical composition of the exhaust gasses to neutralize them. In terms of warranty coverage, both the pre-catalyst and the catalytic converter are covered for 8 years/80,000 miles for defects in manufacturing or material defects.

Not sure what a Nissan Altima is but front catalyst & catalyic converter would be the same.
