That stock does look tempting right now. Thinking about buying a bunch of options.

Very much so, it's not really so much about the company itself, rather how they can work around the union which is critisized for hurting auto-manufacturer's.

It's ironic because supposedly the UAW President Gettlefinger says he will not back down or give up anything in the next rounds of negotiations, and really...if they refuse to do so, they are really biting the hand that feeds them, and they shouldn't surprised that more jobs are going overseas.

Instead of trying to battle the issue with their employers, they really need to go up the totem pole and educate themselves as to how they can help pick politicians/lobbiests that will battle for their needs in Capital Hill. We don't have an administration that would like to keep such manufacturing jobs here. And at the end of the day, really all these workers are fighting for are healthcare costs. If maybe our government took care of such a thing, it would alliviate such issues.

And of course, as long as the dollar is weak, and we have an unfair trade imblanace, and Japans manipulation of the Yen, you have 3 whammies working against the American Manufacturers.

Ford has hired some of the best designers/stylists, etc. The Fusion was just rated in higher reliability than even a Camry with equal depreciation levels to that of the Accord and Camry with better safety crash score standards. Of course we never hear that because perception is the opposite. Right now it's "trendy" to be anti-American.

A new onlsuaght of vehicles are debuting in the next few years, and supposedly the new CEO Mullaly has been trimming off the fat and getting to the route of things. Designers/engineers are being given free reign, rather than the bean counters. New toys, gadgets, technology will be debuting as well.

Sometimes when you have a house and it's so old, and you've done so much renovations to it, there comes a point you need to level it to the foundation and start again, and this is what is currently occuring. You need to become a bit leaner and stop living large, and thats what they are focusing on before building up again...

Just my thought...

Ford has the same problem GM had a few years back. You have to make a car that the public wants. The Japanese are just better at predicting what we are going to buy, and have made serious inroads into the American market. Ford needs to get off the dime and design some fuel efficient cars that appeal to the mainstream instead of the ugly ducklings they have produced in the past five years. The Focus is made in Brazil, the Escape is a Japanese design by Mazda, and the Edge is built on a Mazda platform. IF they would learn how to market these qualities, Americans would line up behind the Blue Oval. The quality is good, the marketing is bad....

Every thing runs in cycles. Look at chrysler. I used to be a Ford employee. Ford is not going anywhere but its like making a queen mary make a u turn. Maybe this boing guy will turn things around. Ford has some decent product they just have to fire the marketing people. If I had some cash I def would. The stock is the lowest its been since the company was founded.

Buy the stocks.... you should check the facts about ford.... for last year they had a 4.6% sales gain.... with...

Explorer... number 1 SUV for 15 years straight with over 6 million sold
Explorer now accounts for %36 of SUV sales in america
Escape best selling small SUV for 2006
Mustang best selling sports car for 2006 with over 215K sold

All this is on Fords website.... All I know is where im at there are tons of mustangs and explorers, I own a 98 Explorer and it has been the best vehicle I have ever owned.... I like all of the big 3... but IMO Ford makes very good vehicles.

Things look tough now, but wait for the 2009 model year products that you'll see in 2008. They are looking very promising.

2008: new Focus, Taurus, Sable
2009: new F-150, Fusion, E-Series
and more stuff beyond that come from Ford products in Europe.

Fords stock has been cheap for several years. Id wait to see what the UAW contract is to deside if Id buy.

The US Focus isnt built in Brazil. Its built in Wayne Michigan and used to also be built in Mexico before the Ford Fuson was built there.

Their problem for the last 50 years has been poor quality in comparison to the imports. Now with the legacy costs of employee pensions and health benefits, they don't have asnowball's chance in hell. Look for a chapter 11 followed by acquisition at bargain prices by a foreign company. Thanks a lot UAW.

I sure hope so. I hope Hillary or Barack or whoever gets elected puts the Big 3 as a priority and stops lobbying of 3 million per yr from toyota. and just as much lobbying done from honda. we need to get the country behind american products instead of making japan and china richer.
