No. There are no Gods, except those of our own making.
Why? There is no evidence, and none for any supernatural.
And no, we came from many things as we go back in time, but briefly, we came from a common ancestor of apes.
Some recent likely ancestors are (Google 'em for more):
H. sapiens idaltu
H. heidelbergensis
H. erectus
H. habilis
Australopithecines (many subspecies; ~5-~1 Million Years)
Kenyanthropus platyops (~4 Million Years)
Ardipithecus ramidus kadabba (~6 Million Years)
Sahelanthropus tchadensis (~7 Million Years)
(~7.5 Million Years - Estimate of split from common ancestor of chimps, bonobos and hominids - this is likely the event to which you refer with your "monkey" comment.)

No, I do not believe in God. There is no proof of the existence of a higher power, only consensus and punishment for disbelief.

Did we come from monkeys? It's very possible, and just because evolution took a turn at some point it does not mean that monkeys had to disappear. Think of it this way: if evolution caused some horses to have spotted coats, then why aren't all horses spotted?

This is difficult for Christians to comprehend, but the planet has been around for billions of years, and over 95% of everything that has ever lived is already extinct. There were species of flightless birds that ruled the planet for over 50 million years at a time, and our couple million years of dominance pales in comparison.

In short, there is simply an overwhelming amount of scientific evidence that shows the evolutionary timeline to be correct, and nothing but a storybook to substantiate God.

I think, before you submit your report, you might want to use "spell check," because you don't spell very well, and this might have a negative impact on your grade.

As to your question: I don't believe (note the spelling) in God in any personal sense. I don't believe that God exists as a person or an entity with a personality.

I believe that there is some spiritual component to human life and that we don't understand what that is or how it works.

Since things that we don't understand make us anxious, we try to resolve the anxiety by "knowing God," which is impossible. We merely end up projecting our fears and hopes onto a creature of our own, made up of our longing to resolve our anxiety.

As a result, we end up trying to the the inifinite into a nice portable box that we can open when we want something from God.

And no, we did not come from monkeys. We share a common ancestor with monkeys, but we evolved along much different lines, even though our DNA is very much the same.

I'm an atheist, which means I don't believe in the Christian God or any other gods. I'm a scientist and the reason I don't think God exists is that there's no physical evidence that even suggests He's real. I try very hard not to "believe" in anything because the word means to accept as truth without proof. When I say I "know" something, it is a testable verifiable true fact. If I allowed myself to "believe" I won't be able to tell the difference between what's actually true and what I hope might be true.

I hold no belief in a god, so by definition I am an atheist.

I see no reason to, given there is no unambiguous evidence to support that belief.

Evolution states we came from a common ancestor of APEs, not monkeys. Despite what your preacher may have told you, we see evolution happening around us all the time. Bacteria becoming resistant to antibiotics is predicted by evolution. The mutation of SIV into HIV is another example of evolution that can be seen in the short term. Longer term changes can only be seen by examining life through time.

By the way, I'm Buddhist. I've been studying for the priesthood for about 7 years.

actually yes, but it's my own personal notion of god and has nothing to do with any religion on earth. Yes I do pray, but it's really more like meditating. I do not believe humans are very imporant in the scheme of the universe. It's waaaay too big!

Read the current issue of newsweek for the most current explanations of the origin of man. In a nutshell, we split off from the chimpanzee family a long time ago, and there were a bunch of other humanoid species like neanderthalls that died out.

Good luck on your report

No, I don't believe in any gods. I'm atheist because I don't believe in any gods. That's what atheism is.

It's a misnomer that humans 'came' from monkeys. The fact is that we ARE, at this present moment, a KIND of ape. That somewhere in the past the current animals that we call 'apes', and humans have a common ancestor. That's why genetically and physiologically human apes and non-human apes are very similar.

No, of course I don't believe in god.

Despite some people's relatives may act, nobody who understands evolution has ever proposed that we come from "monkeys." Not all primates are, or were, monkeys. If you want to ask a serious question dealing with evolution, then have at least a basic understanding of it first.

Yes, I not only believe in God, our Heavenly Father, but I know that He is real, He lives, He hears and answers our prayers! We are His children and He loves us all, even when we don't pray to Him, or when we don't believe in Him .... God the Father and His Son Jesus Christ created man and woman in the Garden of Eden after the creation of this world... They also created all kinds of animals, beasts and birds... mammals and fish, insects and plants... this includes the monkey and no, man does not evolve from an ape... If that were true, then man wouldn't have been in His image and countenance.... Man is created and formed by God to be like Him...monkeys are created like the rest of the animal kingdoms! Sad to know how many people don't really understand this concept... If you need any more help on your report, please let me know ok! Good luck !

No, I don't believe in God--And not mainly for the lack of evidence regarding the "Intelligent Design" theory, but more-so because of the evidence supporting the Big Bang theory.
Regarding your question do we come from monkeys? No.
We come from a type of ape-like ancestor, which then move farther back millions of years to protozoa.
Generally, the entire Darwinian theory of evolution is based on natural selection over long periods of time.

Use evidence to the highest, and don't just believe.

I think there is a God. We share a common ancestor as the primates. Think of a tree, the roots are the beginning of life. Then the tree branches off and each branch grows differently. We, humans, are one branch and primates are other branches. We share the common origin as the primates.
