1 COR 14:34-35 says so. Paul said so.

1COR 14:34-35 Let your women keep silence in the churches: for it is not permitted unto them to speak; but they are commanded to be under obedience as also saith the law. And if they will learn any thing, let them ask their husbands at home: for it is a shame for women to speak in the church.

So now, let's have the excuses. Tell us why this only applied to the corinthians and only those corinthians of that era; but the anti-gay stuff in the NT doesn't just apply to the Romans, but it applies to everyone THEN AND NOW...

Come on, folks...let the hypocrisy and double-speak flow!!

Well, SCOTT capped it for me. This is too funny. Somewhere, he gleans that it was all about whores. Not just women, even though it speaks of women; but whores (a distinction the bible has not been previously bashful to make).

Yikes!!! The plight of the bible-home-schooled!!!

Thanks for the laugh, big-guy!!

This is ridiculous. It clearly says "it is a shame for women to speak in church." That doesn't sound like it's all a concern about people interrupting. It's degrading and chauvinist. There's so much crazy sh*t in the bible, and this is far from the worst of it. Anyone who really followed it to the letter would be locked up as a psychopath.

Besides, if it is all about not interrupting in church, why does it specify women, with no mention of men? So, it's OK for men to interrupt? I don't know how it could be any clearer that this is a restriction placed on women, and women alone.

You already stated what kinds of answers you expect, and somehow I don't think you'd see anything but hypocrisy or "double-speak" no matter WHAT I say.

However, I'm going to answer you anyway. I actually agree with that passage. Women should not interrupt church services with questions or other outbursts. If we have questions, we should ask them at home, or after the service. It's the key to ORDERLY worship, which is what that passage was about.
It doesn't apply to "only" the Corinthians, or "only" that particular church to which that letter was written. It IS all of them!
And yes, I am a woman.

History lesson... Corinth was a coastal town prominent with one overwhelming cash cow-- prostitution. Several of these prostitutes would attend church and attempt to debate church members often disrupting the service. Notice Paul only wrote about this to specifically the church in Corinth, no where else. Paul travelled with a female missionary and ordained a female for ministry (Phoebe). He just felt like prostitues shouldn't speak in the church in Corinth. It's the difference of reading a passage and knowing the Bible. What else you got?

Simple answer...it didn't apply only to the Corinthians. The New Testament clearly states that women are to keep silent during worship, and they are not to hold authority over men in the church. That's how things are done in my congregation, because we follow the WHOLE Bible, not just the parts we like. I have no idea why modern congregations choose to ignore this, or try to make petty excuses for why they don't follow the whole Bible.

What you read, is what you get. Women are to be silent in the church. Too many people take scripture out of context when it's there in black and white and Jesus' words in red. It is because Eve was deceived 1st and then led Adam into sin......I'm sorry to the women who can't stand to hear this, but it is the truth.

extremely some the references to females being quiet in the Church refers to a team or communities of girls asking extremely some questions and being disruptive and have been advised to invite their husbands at living house. The Bible says there is neither jew or greek nor guy or woman in Christ( in the Spirit international ladies and men do no longer marry they are all in the Spirit of Christ totally in a position to worship God with out obstacles.) The Bible does let us know that girls are to no longer carry forth or prepare adult males in the Church.God did tell woman that guy could be her authority , yet Jesus Christ made all persons equivalent in the physique of Christ, so I carry collectively to declare in case you suspect that Jesus certainly set the captive loose that it quite is as much as the church and our very own coronary heart to return to a determination this. in case you suspect God not at all transformations and which you're certainly below Gods rules in any respect situations even below grace i might anticipate your coronary heart might inform you that a woman can't prepare to adult males in the Church yet i think of its a mistake to disqualify women positions that Glorify God purely through fact they are woman.i've got not got self assurance women shouldn't talk in Church, how do you carry a coed bible learn without a woman with the flexibility to talk? i've got not got self assurance God needs a woman as head of the Church yet she would have the capacity to be in very supportive positions, and confident she would desire to talk! some women and a few adult males can tend to talk to lots, and to lots of that would carry approximately sin and reason issues in any Church, we would desire to shop music of our tongues inspite of intercourse!. It's clear that Paul was addressing JUST the ladies of Corrinth as he says "Let your women"
they were babbling and influencing the leaders of the church with unscriptural rhetoric

It is clear that Paul is addressing ALL PRACTICING HOMOSEXUALS of any time or place because he says "no man should lie with a man for that is an abomination"

No double-speak here.

The current "christian" brick and mortar church is apostate.

The Remnant is smaller than anyone would ever beleive, and in it women do not teach.

The End

Learn the culture. The women and men sat in different areas. Sometimes women would interrupt to ask their husbands what the rabbi was talking about. Paul was making a point about order and consideration. If the women had questions let them be considerate and wait until everything was finished before asking the quesiton.

That's not hypocrisy or double-speak. It's fact you can check out.
