i am a truck driver and i use my c.b. everyday...alot of people are still using them mainly on the highway.. it lets you talk to other people in the cars around you,(providing they have a c.b. too) mostly truckers use them to talk to other trucks..they can be pretty fun.they let the truckers know where the police are, traffic jams, accidents ,directions and other road conditions..truckers talk on channel 19...and yes there is a lingo all its own ,you kinda have to listen for awhile to catch on...here is a few
a bear is a cop.
a 1033 is an accident
10-4 means OK
a 1036 is the time
your 10-20 is your location...
there aren't really any rules so the language is pretty rough
be careful and don't give anyone your exact location ..
some truckers and other people are pretty mean to women
(I'm not sure why)but most are OK...they are good on trips especially if there are a few cars going and they all have radios to talk to each other..and yes you should have a handle, its just part of the game

Think of it like you're standing in a room with a whole bunch of people that can hear you, but don't necessarily want to talk to you.
If you don't have anything interesting to say, don't say anything.
Just listen for the first couple of weeks to find out who is who.
Some people are considered respectable CBers, and others aren't and it good to know this before making friends.
Be considerate to others, and they will be considerate to you.
