why did JESUS tell the apostles were i am going you cannot come but i go to prepare a place for you?

I think you may have verses mixed up. IN Jno. 14 it says

2 In my Father's house are many mansions: if it were not so, I would have told you. I go to prepare a place for you. 3 And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again, and receive you unto myself; that where I am, there ye may be also.
You might be referring to Jesus before his ascension when he told his apostles. "yea cannot go" (they were not dead and he was going before them to prepare a place). Their work on earth was just beginning.
You also said: what place That would be Heaven(Gods dwelling place).

Isn't it wonderful that he tell us through his apostle exactly what his plan was. Have a blessed day and may your God bless you.

Jesus was acsending into heaven. The twelve apostles followed Jesus to learn his teachings and to be able to spread the Good News. Jesus was to go to heaven and prepare a place for us. If the 12 disciples followed Jesus to heaven who would have been left to teach us now about the bible? They would have been gone and they wouldn't have been here to walk the earth and tell everyone that Jesus saves. They did make it to heaven for their works because all of the disciples were killed in the name of Jesus. They were killed for spreading the Good News. Jesus was refering to Heaven and we are to be there when it is our time to go for living by God's word and following his will.

Let's look at the actual words of Jesus.
John 14 (KJV)
1Let not your heart be troubled: ye believe in God, believe also in me. 2In my Father's house are many mansions: if it were not so, I would have told you. I go to prepare a place for you. 3And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again, and receive you unto myself; that where I am, there ye may be also.
NIV
"Do not let your hearts be troubled. Trust in God[a]; trust also in me. 2In my Father's house are many rooms; if it were not so, I would have told you. I am going there to prepare a place for you. 3And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come back and take you to be with me that you also may be where I am
NWT
“Do not let YOUR hearts be troubled. Exercise faith in God, exercise faith also in me. 2 In the house of my Father there are many abodes. Otherwise, I would have told YOU, because I am going my way to prepare a place for YOU. 3 Also, if I go my way and prepare a place for YOU, I am coming again and will receive YOU home to myself, that where I am YOU also may be.

Yes, the place Jesus would prepare for his apostles was heaven. However, from Jesus words it is obvious that they would not go there as soon as they died. They would remain asleep in death until Jesus returned. Paul understood this when he stated before his death "From this time on there is reserved for me the crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous judge, will give me as a reward in that day, yet not only to me, but also to all those who have loved his manifestation. - 2Timothy 4:8
Paul had been speaking in this chapter of the time when Jesus would judge at his kingdom or appearance.(2Timothy 4:1)

Jesus was referring to heaven. He was going there ahead of them and when the time came for the first Resurrection, he would have a place prepared for them.
But in the mean time, they would rest from their works and wait.

First of all Jesus did not tell anyone this. The whole thing is made up. Whoever actually wrote it (Paul?) was a masterful storyteller. God is unhappy with Paul and is probably preparing a place (not happy) for him too.

To answer your question, Christ spoke to the apostles that as a living person they couldn't come with him in flesh, but once they passed on, their spirit would go to heaven where Jesus
prepared a place for them. Hope your satisfied, thanks for asking.

He's basicly telling them that He is going to prepare a place for them in heaven. Them, being alive, could not follow Him there like they followed Him around before. He's basicly saying "Sorry guys, you can't come this time, but you'll get to come once your time here is up, I'm going to go get your room ready for you." real simple.
