No they do not take up souls when one dies. When a person dies, they are dead laying in their graves, waiting for the day of resurrection.

Mary has no role to play. Souls join Jesus in heaven based on faith and baptism in Jesus.
Matthew 16:28 (New International Version)
New International Version
28 I tell you the truth, some who are standing here will not taste death before they see the Son of Man coming in his kingdom."
Romans 4:25 (New International Version)

25 He was delivered over to death for our sins and was raised to life for our justification.
# Romans 6:4
We were therefore buried with him through baptism into death in order that, just as Christ was raised from the dead through the glory of the Father, we too may live a new life.
Romans 6:3-5
1 Peter 3:18 (New International Version)
New International Version (NIV)
18For Christ died for sins once for all, the righteous for the unrighteous, to bring you to God. He was put to death in the body but made alive by the Spirit,

1. We are a soul, we do not have a soul.
2. Nowhere do you find in the Bible any hint that Mary or the saints have anything to do with "taking up souls."

Well, I would give biblical justification, only the bible doesn't reveal much save of the people who wrote and compiled it.
When the body dies, it breaks down. Death is the cessation of cognitive function, not some spiritual journey as many would like to believe. End of story.

This does not and will not happen. Your soul dies when you die just like the doctor dies when the person who is a doctor dies. The resurrection is the only hope for those who have lost loved ones to death but it is a very real hope and promise from God. (Acts 24:15)

first thing, are you catholic?
the bible says that when the trumpets sound in the last days, those who are children of God will be raptured. it does not say that in the words i have used, but it does say it in revelation. Mary and the saints will also be raptured. nowhere in the bible does it say anything about them alredy being in heaven. if you pray to "the saints" and to mary, you are committing idolatry. you should be praying to God directly. look at the ten commandments.
thou shat not have any gods before Me. thou shalt not make unto the any graven image or any likeness of any thing that is in heaven above or that is in earth below or that is in the water under the earth. thou shalt not bow down thyself to them, nor serve them.
look to the book of revelation for the sighns of the end.

What do Mary and the saints got to do with anything? Sure they are great People, but it is ultimately up to GOD to decide if our souls go anywhere or not.

If Mary and saints take up souls, then what part does god actually get?
Mary was a human being. Saints are man-named.

Can't find that in the Bible. That is some extra biblical ideas brought about catholic teaching.
