Don't need a diet, cut back on his food, especially the treats and people food and walk him more...

If you are thinking about changing the dogfood, Forget Beneful, and those type so called foods. They are garbage dogfood. Dogs that are losing weight by eating it, are doing so because there is no nutritional value to it at all.. Basically slowly starving.
You want a dogfood that is lower in fat, with good quality ingredients, no corn, no byproducts, no garbage..

Buy a high-quality diet or 'light' dog food. Don't buy anything from Petsmart or the grocery store!! Purina, Alpo, Iams, those are all terrible brands full of fats, fillers, and artificial everything. Find a natural pet store in your area (you can probably find one in the yellow pages) and look for brands like Artemis, Merrick, Wellness, Innova Evo, Timberwolf Organics, Chicken Soup, Solid Gold, Fromm, and Verus. Feed her the amount according to the weight she OUGHT to be- not the weight she currently is. If she is a miniature and not a toy, she should weight about 12-15 pounds, possibly up to 20 if she's very tall. Feed her for that weight range as opposed to the 30 lbs. Lots of walks, no treats, no people food.

Alternately, you can feed him boiled chicken breast (no skin), low-fat yogurt (plain), cottage cheese, small amounts of brown rice, plain oatmeal (raw), carrots, peas, broccoli, and sweet potatoes. A high protein natural food diet can be equally helpful in weight loss.

Try to switch him to a new dog food. Many dog food manufacturers have a senior formula for older dogs that can also be used for weight control. Also, you may want to get him on a consistent exercise regimen. He's kind of old, so don't push him too hard, but you could start by taking walks that are a little bit longer every day and then gradually increase them until he's walking maybe 15 minutes longer than he used to. When you switch out the dog food, don't just change it over cold-turkey. Phase out the old one by mixing it in with the new kind, then gradually cutting the old brand out. If you change it too suddenly, your dog will get sick and throw up all over the house. Good luck!

Replace the milk with skim milk, first of all. Secondly, choose a different cereal. Special K has little fiber, but lots of sugar. This 'Special K diet' is only a way to make money for them, the cereal is not healthy. Try to find a better cereal, one with more fiber to keep you full and less sugar so you lose weight faster. Also, crunches won't do much. That doesn't burn calories at all, just builds muscle, but that is useless if you aren't burning any fat. Run, jog, bike, jump rope, or swim. You have to do aerobics.

Don't put him on a diet that's mean. There are certain foods that make dogs lose weight. I use Beniful and my dogs are blasting off weight. My pup came and was 37 pounds. Actually Beniful was kind of terrible at first only taking off two pounds in three months but then it eventually came to take off more weight. My dog isn't skinny or anorexic. You can't feel her bones because of her muscle but she's like 12 now and is 23 pounds. Why did you get such an old dog?

I think some of the more expensive brands keep them fatter.
I bet he has been on IMS. Put him on a Purina for the older less active and he'll do better. Walk him a lot.
Good luck. I'm sure he's a great dog.

I have a fat poodle too. You should not feed it table scraps or any sweets. Poodles do need a little sweet for their blood sugar levels to be regular because they are hypoglycemic. Buy kibble that is for lean adult dogs and dont mix it with wet food. Try this for 2 weeks and take it on a walk everyday for 20 mins.

Your vet can recommend a diet food for him. Also, take him for long walks. Teach him to fetch.

MAYBE YOU SHOULD GO TO A VETERINARIAN AND SURE HE WILL TELL YOU WHAT TO DO. BUT IF U CAN'T GO THEN YOU SHOULD MAYBE GIVE HIM HEALTHY FOOD AND LESS TIMES A DAY THAN U GIVE HIM NOW AND TAKE HIM FOR A COUPLE OF TIMES OUT SIDE TO RUN OR DO ANY EXERCISES, IT WILL BE GOOD FOR YOU TO.
HOPE EVERYTHING GOES WELL AND THAT MY ANSWER WAS HELPFUL.
