My 11 year old son has a cold sore on his upper lip. Does this mean that they will occur through-out his life now? I am very confused about herpes/cold sores. What's the difference? is there a difference? Should I stop sharing drinks with him or kissing him good-night. I hope I don't sound stupid.
Is there anything tht i can give him to help it go away faster?

cold sores ARE a type of herpes but it happens to almost everybody... nothing to worry about, just use carmex or a cold sore cream until it goes away and then u can still kiss him goodnight and everything. but the cold sore itself is highly contagious so dont kiss him or share drinks with him until it is gone completely!

Yes, cold sores are a strain of oral herpes. He may experience them throughout his lifetime during stressful times or after sun exposure or fevers.

You can contract herpes when he's having an outbreak (visible cold sore).

Use the OTC medicine called herpicin to alleviate pain and duration. If that doesn't work, his pediatrician should be able to prescribe something.

I got identified with herpes (type 2) about five years ago, whilst I was still in college and had a foolish one-night stand. I know loads of young women say this, but I swear I had never done that sort of thing before. I just made a huge mistake that one time and all of a sudden it seemed like I was going to have to live with the consequences for the rest of my life. The hardest part was feeling I could never date guys again. After all, who wants to go out with someone that has sores around her "you know what" area? But since a friend shared this video https://tr.im/iyB43 everything got better.

Not only was I able to eliminate all traces of the herpes simplex virus from my body in less than three weeks, but I was also able to start dating again. I even met the guy of my dreams and I'm so lucky to write that just a week ago, in front of everyone in a crowded restaurant, he got down on one knee and proposed to me! This system gave me back the opportunity to be happy and experience real love again. Now I want to help others by sharing this story.

In my experience the contagious type of herpes usually breaks out big time the first time you get it and lessens on subsequent outbreaks. If you are just looking at one sore it is probably a false alarm. And yes the contagious stuff stays with you for life. Look it up on medicinenet.com a good source for medical information of all kinds,

They are caused by one form of herpes, and once you have one, it's more likely that you will get them in the future. They are contagious! Here is a really informative website from the Mayo Clinic...
