natural gas is lighter then air.
To cook with a gas heavier than air (propane butane) put it under pressure as it is used normally

Density of nat. gas: 0.700 - 0.840 kg/m³
Air 1.204 Kg/m³ (at 20°C)

So yes it´s lighter
