I'll help you ... give a couple of minutes, we have to check the MO maps first. And to the other guy, a person that works for amtrak would be an expert in it!!!!
So far I know you need to stop in Washington , MO ( the closest station to Branson) although St. Louis is bigger so you'll have more alternatives for the trip to Branson.$212round trip . 16hrs. 1 stop in chicago each way. Here is the schedule .:
http://tickets.amtrak.com/itd/amtrak/FareFinder?_tripType=Return&_origin=St.+Cloud+MN+&_depmonthyear=2007-05&_depday=30&_dephourmin=&_destination=St+Louis%2C+MO&_retmonthyear=2007-06&_retday=07&_rethourmin=&_adults=1&_children=0&_infants=0&_searchBy=fare&x=11&y=8
Here is a flight alternative since after all the buses fairs , you'll be spending the same amount of $
via plane: $345 (round trip- to springfield.)

The closest you can get to Branson, MO is St. Louis. The only passenger rail service Branson has is a tourist railroad that operates for short distances out of the old Missouri Pacific depot. You would take a train named the Empire Builder out of St Cloud to Chicago Union Station. You would have aprox. 2 hour layover there and catch train 305 to St. Louis. The fare seems to be $212.00 round trip. A Greyhound bus leaves St. Louis at aprox 3AM for Branson. I would reccomend renting a car in St. Louis, though. It's aprox. 4 hours to Branson via I-44 to Springfield and then US-65 south from there. Call 800-USARAIL to book your train trip or go to www.amtrak.com

Why don't you just rent a car in St. Cloud instead of all the hassle. It is only a 7 hour drive from St. Cloud

Sometimes their route finder is a little wacky. Just find the trains that run in your states, and look at hteir schedules and organize it yourself.
Fear not the layover in Chicago; you're downtown and there are many cool things to do. The station is 2 blocks west of the Sears Tower.

It looks like the closest you can get to Branson is Walnut Ridge, Arkansas, about 150 miles away.
