I probably cook the same 10 - 12 things about 90% percent of the time. The other 10% is experimentation or remembering that , "hey I haven't made this in forever"

Currently, I cook dishes that are Puerto Rican, German, Hawaiin, Japanese, Chinese, Egyptian, Greek, Southern, American, Italian.
I am expanding to learn some Indian, Tex Mex, and some Carribean. I usually rotate these and sometimes I experiment. I try to get tried and true recipes from friends whenever we get together. Makes for a greater variety. What I have trouble with is finding tasty dishes for my son who is allergic to virtually everything and no matter what kind of food I am cooking he inevitable eats completly unseasoned chicken or beef w/potatoes or rice.
I am a terrible baker. I make a few things well and that is it. The rest really sucks when it comes to tasty morsels of sugary treats from the oven.

I experiment, and highly suggest that people branch out and try it!!! It seems like a lot of people get caught in a rut with recipes, preparing the same old fare night after night......Answer this: how many nights could you eat, say, let me think............hamburgers............every night, all month, would you ever want to lay eyes on one again??? No, of course not.....and with the variety of food stuffs on this planet, why limit yourself to just "old standbys'??? There are soooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo many things out there to experiment with......so, ya screw one or two things up, heck, even I've done that.......and I'm culinarily trained!!! Enjoy!!!

My job is good that way. I have so many cookbooks and I am not afraid to experiment. I like all cultural cuisine and I like to use a variety of spices. For a while I was making 'ethnic' specials for different nights. The ones they liked the best were, of course, Italian and Mexican nights. Second to that was oriental night. I was just getting into East Indian cuisine when we hit break-up. So, now I am experimenting here at home with that. It gives me something to do and I get a chance to invite my buddies over for a new dining experience. :}

I have about 5 main meals, then I look for cool things to eat.
Pork Chops with raisins, walnuts with a topping of maple syrup is a new one I found this week. Real easy, over wild rice.

when the kids were living at home I tended to do the old stand bys and now that they are gone I love to experiment. I have the time and more money to spend on better ingredients.
