He'd probably have a very long-winded parable about it. But he certainly wouldn't approve of most American Christians. He preached a philosophy of selflesness and charity, and it's been distorted into a religion of dogma and greed. Were he alive, he'd have strong words for the Christian Right, and I'm certain he'd see persecution, but not of Christians.

In America, the persecution is primarily verbiage, court or legislative incidents, media and such. Very little hands-on persecution of Christians is going on (life threatening) in America at this time. It's outside of America that the persecution and mass-murdering of Christians is actively taking place. (Africa, China, India, Pakistan, South & Latin America....).

And Modern Christians (American or otherwise). The key word I'm focusing on is "Modern". Jesus has never claimed to be of this world, never a part of whatever was deemed modern or acceptable by the secular masses. So, the Christians that truly follow Jesus are independent of the world, it's promises, wealth, opportunitys, power, status, secular seductions. Christians study Jesus' life and His Word, and live their lives by it.
Not to worry about whether the modern Christians were what Jesus had in mind, because when Jesus comes again, the goats will be separated from the sheep, and those who were not with God will be found out. It is not our place to judge, but God's, so just leave it to God.

What you recommend to ask is: "How are the individuals like how the Pharisees are defined interior the NT? The NT describes them the way a Republican could describe a Democrat or visa versa. that's an faulty stereotype. Edit: What you meant to respond to was thanking me for perfect stating that an total team of persons from 2000 years interior the previous should not be lumped jointly. confident, there have been some hypocrites, even nevertheless you shouldn't purchase into the generalization. although, I are no longer waiting to provide up you from appearing like a Rhode Island blacksmith while you're no longer vulnerable to alter.

No, I don't think he had modern American Christians in mind. THEY are running things. There is no way they could claim persecution. Real honest to goodness hippies on the other hand are fully persecuted. You don't see 'em much anymore cause of recent crackdowns. Peace and Love.

Christians have always been persecuted. Not all Christians united with the Christian/Pagan mix of Catholicism for the state religion 1700 years ago. For 1700 years Christ was not taught in Christianity because the Catholic church was the only allowed church. When you see Mary with Jesus in her arms it could just as easily be Semiramus and Tammuz who also taught a mother/son cult after her husband Nimrod died. This was a pagan religion long before the catholic church. Not only was Mary prayed to which is wrong, but the Catholic church had more idols of worship praying to saints than most cults and heathen worshipers had. The Christians of Rome were torn into, burned, eaten by lions, eyes gouged out and tormented horribly. So where is the Catholic headquarters, none other than Rome itself. The first Catholic church I attended with a friend in Houston, Texas, was loaded with statues of saints. I couldn't believe that the Bible says don't make graven images and a church is loaded with Sculptures. I couldn't believe Shadrack, Meshack and Abednego went into a fiery furnace because they wouldn't bow down to a king and Catholics worship, pray and bow to saints and a Pope.

Persecution in America is nothing compared to persecution in the Sudan and China and Arab nations. The Islamic religion, the atheists and other non-Christian religions would love to see Christians persecuted in America. They don't want to hear about Jesus and they want us out of this country.

No, not at all. American Christians who whine about being persecuted have no idea what real persecution is like. They should ask all the homosexual and minority religion people that they persecute what real persecution is like.

He wouldn't be amused. Jesus criticism's of the religious hypocrisy, injustice, and persecution of the poor going on in his day are exactly the same kind of things going on among American Christian's today. If Christians think that they can worship both God and Mammon any more now than 2000 years ago, they're just as blind as the people in Jesus' own day.

To quote Jesus from the gospels:

"You hypocrites! Isaiah was right when he prophesied about you:
'These people honor me with their lips,
but their hearts are far from me.
they worship me in vain;
their teachings are but rules taught by men...'"

I highly doubt it. The Christians that the Romans fed to the lions have a much stronger case.

He'd probably tell the American Christians to stop whining. They're the majority. Their right to worship is protected. The only "freedom" they aren't allowed to have is the "freedom" to impose their views on others. And you know what, I think Jesus would be ok with that!

I'm a Deist, but nevertheless I believe that a person named Jesus existed. However, I believe that he was a great moral mentor, not a god. And I also believe that he would be furious when he sees what Christians done in his name throughout history (Witch hunt, burning on stakes, forced conversion...). I would say that most of the time, persecution came FROM *some* modern Christians, NOT against them.

I don't think the majority of the Christians are crying persecution....

I am a Christian and have tons of Christian friends, we do not sit around and complain about our constant persecution.

How did you do the poll to determine that the majority are crying persecution?

Peace!

He'd think they were a pack of Pharisees. His message was hard, bear in mind He only had about a dozen people who "got it" and even they missed the point a lot. The modern Cross wavers are just the modern versions of the people willing to stone others rather than look to their own hearts.

That's my take on it anyway, I could be wrong.

Jesus meant that all people who will be following Him can expect to be persecuted. He was persecuted, we can expect that. He was right. Early Christians were cruelly persecuted for their faith to Jesus. People were willing to die for the truth. People tried to silence Christians.

People are dying for Jesus even today. Little personal insults are minor discomfort here. Jesus took nails for me.
