Only happens when I have a hot flash. This itching is like I'm covered with millions of biting stinging ants. when the hot flash stops the itching stops. Is this something can be stopped wisth medication? What's causing it" I've talked to other women in perimenopause, they have the hot flashes but not this itching.

It's the flow of blood to the skin that causes the characteristic flush. You might be more sensitive to that and it's causing a nervous response - sort of like the tingling or burning from a sun burn. Are you taking any medications or vitamins? Niacin could accentuate the flush as well as the feeling you experience.

It might just be the blood rushing quite fast to those places and thereby stinging. I have only one advice that may help. drink a lot of non alcoholic fluids. water or similar. try not to drink heavy stuff like chocolate milk or anything. the more water in the drink ( tea and so on) the more cleansing. if you keep that up it might really help... it just depends if you mind going to the bathroom to pee a lot ... :) I would also advice the minimum amount of sugar in your diet you can stand without getting all kinds of sugar cravings. Sugar is a very disruptive thing when you are having problems with heat and sweat. you don't have to go sugarless, just lessen it, just as you increase you fluids. it should really help after about two days... maybe three. hope it helps you.

I know the feeling and I have had hot flashes from Niacin. It is very unpleasant... but for me it wasn't a big deal because my hot flashes only lasted a few minutes at a time so it wasn't the end of the world.

i dont know if it can be stopped with medicine but sit in cold water....the itching means that your body is reacting to the heat and that you are sweating!!!
when you sweat you itch....
