input or civilized and rational discussion.......I am getting a little irritated with the seething and sarcastic almost rhetorical questions directed to christians (quotations applied or not) why ask the question if youre just gonna bash it anyway?! and some of the attacks that an answerer who may offer kind words and/or a reference to their God gets for simply answering a question!? ex: MIKE!
I dont understand why there has to be such angst around asking or answering questions regardless of whomevers "religious" or lack there of platform!

WHAT GIVES???

I appreciate all the responses thus far....the quotations thing was meant for those are typing their questions/answers not my interpretation of where they stand- no human has that authority.
I dont feel persecuted, just a little sad that lots of people on here are closing their minds just because of where someones faith belongs. I learned the definition of atheist vs unitarian and was appreciative that i could ask and understand where they stood. no hard words- just a brick out of the miscommunication wall...it was pretty cool. I guess I wish there were more outcomes like that than the "you suck youre a (fill in the religious, ethnic, gender slur here)"

Man is (including women of course) a very emotional creature at the core. It is often times easiest to respond emotionally rather than through rational discourse. Myself as an example, at times I find myself reacting 'emotionally' rather than calming myself and responding in a rational and coherent manner.
It would seem to me that this is due to our desire to not question or compromise our core beliefs which define us. How would you like to have everything you believed and made up who you were to be derided? This I believe stands at the core reason such problems come up.
So folks out there in the Yahoo Answers world (including me!!!) just take a breather and rationally argue your case. And be civil. In the long run this will only help your case.

Too bad - this isnt a forum for input or rational discussion - its a quesiton and answer site. You just violated the TOS and admitted to it.

And I am getting irritated listening to Christians allege that they are persecuted in America. But at least I dont WHINE about it. Its really simple - if you dont like the question, dont leave a response. That simple. Get over yourself and your persecution complex.

You need to understand that nearly no one here takes this stupid site seriously. Ive tried having rational calm discussions with Christians - and this site has taught me that that is an impossible thing to do - speak rationally with a Christian. So, Ive resolved to poking fun, mocking and asking rhetorical questions. If you dont like it, dont read what I post.

I have noticed a lot of questions asked just for the sake of "bashing" But I do believe there are bad folks on BOTH SIDES making their side look bad.

There's some crazy Christians and some crazy atheists on this board. And then, some people don't know how to wave at the trolls when they come out from under the bridge!! (No pun intended 'trolling')

Learn to smile at the trolls and give them candy. They LOVE candy :)

It's a two way street, for a start. I once asked a question about th eAppendix. Here are some of the answers I got.

"God has a purpose for everything."

"Nothing created by God was imperfect, originally."

"I hope you to search and read because realy religion is the most important thing in this world and the fate of diffirent religions is not the same so try to search for the right one to be from your deep heart you are believing Finally my advice read well and search your hapiness is between your hands ."

Didn't necessarily add to the debate, in my opinion.

(It's hard to *discuss* here on Yahoo! Answers! You won't be able to answer back the answers we give except to comment on the one you choose as best, I think.)

Not all of us get seething and sarcastic. It's just that those of us who choose *not* to do so, may be uncomfortable addressing religious questions *at all*. We feel it is not our realm to address religious questions. I suspect my religious beliefs (or lack thereof) maybe quite different from yours. I do not feel the authority to impose or even suggest mine or argue them upon you. I do not have justifiable or provable logical reasons for my beliefs. You do not have logic you can give me for yours. There is no reason for anger or warfare between us. I see no reason for argument. Therefore, in the normal run of things, I will not answer questions such as yours.

But I thought I would, in this case, just to help you realize that not all non-Christians are hateful, sarcastic, vengeful, intolerant, or otherwise hostile toward Christians.

Some of us just wish not to enter into that realm of discussion.

If a person answering a questions gives a fair, rational answer, that's great. A lot of the Christian answers on here are comprised of:

"Because God said so."
"There is only one God and yours is wrong."
"You're going to hell. I'm going to heaven."

These are not civilized nor or they rational answers. Is it too much to ask to step aside from the quotes and answer the question like a regular person?

And why is it always the Christians who complain about being ridiculed?

Everyone on the planet experiences ridicule. This is just one of those parts of life that you have to accept and get over it.

I mean this in the least sarcastic way possible. EVERYONE GETS RIDICULED.

But if it happens a lot, maybe you need to start considering the ridicule and learning from it.

I think your question is reasonable, but one-sided. I don't think that anyone can honestly say that the christians (quotations applied or not) are generally respectful of non-christians.
And if you REALLY want to see hatred, look at 90% of the questions and answers directed at Muslims.

Some people just do not know how to learn from people of other beliefs. This is a human failing much more than any particular ideology's unique characteristic.
