This is only involving 15-20 boxes and a king sized mattress. Some of these quotes from Uhaul, Budget and even PODS is outrageous!
PODS was $3800, the trucks are all around $1500. Any ideas??

I would sell the mattress and send the boxes by Greyhound bus.You will need to pick up the boxes at the bus station.
If not rent a van .

Bear in mind that the rental is one way, and costs extra, plus mileage.
You shouldn't need but a midsize truck. Aside from a 6X6 mattress, stack the boxes and measure the volumn.
This will tell you the smallest size truck needed.
Sounds like $1500.00 may be the lowest.

Send the books by book rate through the post office. Give the clothes away to Salvation Army. Dump ANYTHING you have NOT used in the past 6 months
Sell the rest and buy new when you get there. Americans get married to their stuff... for the $3800 you can get a whole new apartment and have money left over.
