The addition of the crush resistant (not crush proof) material to the drivers side door was the only real safety innovation of the C.O.T. The body change, air splitter vs. the front valence, and the rear "wing" vs. the rear spoiler were all done so that NASCAR could aim for a different and younger fan base. They no longer look like stock cars, they look like GT or eurosports. It all started with the Cup series moving from Winston to Nextel.

You see, NASCAR is not interested in driver safety or the quality of the race as much as they are interested in THE BOTTOM DOLLAR. They want to increase their revenues.

They even tried to use the excuse that the C.O.T. would cut down on team costs and even the playing field. But how is that true? They still allow a "guaranteed entry" to the top 35 in owners points (not championship points)! The richer teams will still always hold the advantage, because they can hire all the "rocket scientists" to adjust, tune and tweak the cars into a more raceable car.

It's funny, but one of the smartest safety features that they came up with, never really got used. The roof escape hatch was a brilliant idea. But the only driver to ever use it was Michael Waltrip. And he only used it as a way to jump out of his car and celebrate one of his very few wins.

They could have had a better looking car than what they did, but it makes the racing even for all teams. Who wants to see someone win by 5 to 10 seconds? And they have been working on this car for about 7 years now. It wasn't put together over night. Jeff Burton said it best when he said in an interview. "Just drive the damn thing." You can complain all you want to , but if Nascar says drive it, then you drive it.
I don't know how they could have made the car of today safer than it is. That's why they came out with this COT. But they will still run the old cars for most of this year and I think some of next year. Just so they can get the bugs out of the COT. The splitter is already causing controversy. At Bristol it was the cause of a few cut left rear tires. But like anything new, there will be some bugs. I hope this answers your question.

I think that when the COT gets used more and more the drivers arent going to be able to pull triple duty or double duty and everything. I mean the drivers who did good on the same tracks during the Busch race take that information to the Cup race and use that to their advantage which if you think about it is kind of cheating in a sense but not anything that you can get penalized for or hurts you a ton. I just don't think as many drivers will be doing it if they get a full schedule with the COT in 2008. I also think that they could have made the adjustments to the old car and kept the Monte Carlo my favorite and keep the look of the stock car. I mean I hate that front splitter and hte COT still needs adjustments. The splitter is cutting way to may tires, Goodyear is racing really hard tires with no grip, and the rear wing barely will stay on if you get hit, and to top it all of the entire car is kind of ugly. It looks a ton better wiht the paint and decals but wiht jsut the primer it looks horrible. I think that in the old cars they could of had the same design but made them a little bigger in the area where the drivers get in and out and then moved the drivers more towards the center, then giving them some reinforcements to the sheet metal on the car. I thought thats what the should of done but its just going to take some time to get used to all the change going on.

I am starting to hate the C.O.T. What mean by this All the cars for the teams look the same. Manufacturer doesn't matter. They all look like cookie cutters. You can't tell a Chevy from a Ford, a Dodge from a Toyota. I figured out the only way to tell the difference would be if you were standing directly in front of the car looking down at the hood.

I'm all for nascar trying to make it safer but i think there staying to over do it. I mean they have the new safty walls. I think they could have made the cars alittle bigger and put the driver more in the middle but whats the point of the wings and the new noise on these cars. I dont like it one bit. I think nascar is over doing it and what for just because Dale Sr. got kiilled look at all the other drivers died before him and nascar didnt do a damn thing about it.

NASCAR could have mandated movement of the steering towards the middle of the car and enlarged the window openings for easy entrance/exit for drivers safety. All new bodies could have been mandated to be stock height and windshield angle and that would have helped the dependence on aero. Same with the slicked-up bodies. Make them fit stock templates, not ones created by NASCAR. A review of old designs and rules could have been undertaken without building 6 or 7 version of the COT to what it is today. A common body with nose and tail pieces fabricated to appear stock. The dependence on aerodynamics to increase speed and handling has caused body specialists to create all sorts of "cheater" cars, where a stock template would have eliminated them They've taken the Stock Car out of NASCAR racing.

There is no problem with the COT.

If you notice, most of the drivers who are complaining are the Bushwhackers. The only reason they race in the Bush races is to get in an unofficial testing session before the Cup race.

The COT is different enough from the Bush cars that they no longer get enough good information to give them an advantage in the cup race.

It should give a more level playing field.

I think they made the right call with the car of tommorrow. It's safer and I look the new look, it's a lot like the craftsman trucks I hope it just makes nextel races just as exciting.

I wish they would get their dayyam cars from the show rooms and see who could build and race a true stock car and not a roll of sheet metal steached over a frame.
That's all I have to say about that.

Im allright with the COT. As was said, most of the compainers are those who used the Busch Series as a test session. Most other complainers are used to what they were driving, and have to get used to something new.
