I've never heard it called western salad dressing, but perhaps this is the recipe you are looking for. It is really good!
MIDWEST TACO SALAD
1 lb ground beef
1 tablespoon Mexican seasoning
1 head romaine lettuce
5 roma tomatoes
2 cups colby-monterey jack cheese, shredded
10 ounces Doritos, crushed (nacho flavor 1/2 bag)
8 ounces Catalina dressing, 1/2 bottle
Brown hamburger with seasoning, drain and chill.
In large bowl rip up lettuce, add tomatoes, cheese and chilled beef.
Just before serving add chips and salad dressing.
This is great as a left over, even though the chips get soggy, it's still really good.
Make sure you cover, it absorbs other flavors from the fridge easily!

TACO SALAD OR DIP 1 lb Lean hamburger or ground turkey 1 envelope Taco seasoning mix 1 bottle Catalina French Salad Dressing ½ big bag Tortilla chips, broken up some 4 oz Jalapeno peppers, sliced 4 oz Sour cream 4 oz Shredded Mexican cheese (or more to taste) Garden salad including lettuce, tomato, onion, green peppers, scallions, cucumbers or whatever you like 1. Cook hamburger with taco seasoning according to package directions. Chill while making salad. 2. Combine salad, taco meat, cheese and tortilla chips 3. Moisten with Catalina dressing to desired wetness, toss well 4. Serve immediately with sour cream and jalapenos on side If making into a dip, be sure your salad ingredients are cut very small. Use tortilla chips to scoop up the dip (I took this to a pot luck and the others ate it this way before I could assemble it into a salad, they liked it so I just smiled and took the credit for a wonderful dip). If taking to a pot luck, add the dressing and tortilla chips at the location so it doesn’t get soggy.

Yeah. Just brown ground beef and add your favorite taco seasoning (I like Old El Paso). Follow the directions on the package to make the beef.
Put it over shredded lettuce, cheese, tomatoes, onions, whatever you like.
Crush Doritoes and put them on top.
Dress with a mixture of 1/2 salsa and 1/2 French (or Western) dressing.
It's yum!

Best way I know is, ground turkey cooked with one package of taco seasoning, then in separate bowls add Black Beans, avocado diced, shredded cheddar cheese, sliced black olives. For the salad mix use mixed organic greens and iceberg mixed together, and for the dressing use 1 part 1000 island dressing and salsa of your choice. Top off with corn chips.
enjoy
