The general rule for weight is that if you are at least 60 inches, or five feet tall, you should weigh 100 lbs. Then add 5lbs for every inch over 5 ft. So someone who is 5ft 4in would be about 120 lbs at 'normal' body weight.
The more medically accurate method is to calculate your Body Mass Index (BMI). If your BMI is below 20, then you are too thin for your height.
Another thing, if you are female, if you stop menstruating, then you are too thin for your height, as you need a minimum percentage of body fat to produce estrogen. Looking at someone's gluteal (buttocks) fat will also give you an idea if they are severely anorexic. If they have concave buttocks, then they are very thin, as that is one of the last fat masses to disappear. But by then, their weight would be at a critical stage.

Sometimes you DON'T know. I had no idea I was underweight until I started displaying extreme symptoms. I was training 6 to 7 days a week for Ironman and my caloric intake was 4500-5000 a day so who would have thought I wasn't healthy?!
Symptoms to Look For:
- dizziness, lightheadedness
- decrease in balance
- increase in fatigue
- decrease in amount of exercise before you feel fatigued
- muslce strains/sprains more common
- skin bruises easily
- halted menstruation (in women)
- decreased sexual desire
- feeling cold a majority of the time
If you are seriosuly concerned, see a doctor or trainer to get your body fat analysis done and see where you fall WNL.
Good luck!

When your ribs look very defined under your skin. Also, if you calculate your BMI (Body Mass Index) online, it could tell you something about whether you are underweight or not. But it's not bad to just be thin, so you really can't know if your "too thin" or not.

low total bodyweight with a higher than average amount of body fat. if you are thin you should be lean (low body fat), if not then you need to increase muscle mass and lose some body fat.
in terms of being "healthy" just being light on the scale is irrelevant if the body fat is not low. many who are skinny are deficient in many nutrients from generally not eating regularly or not enough healthy foods.

Check your bmi, it is different for evryone. Sometimes you dont have a really low weight, but you can look anorexic. Go to the doctors and get them to check it out, and just make sure you( ro whoever) is eating sensibly, and healthily.

if you're a girl, when your period stops. Your body wont ovulate if it's just trying to stay alive.
Your hair falls out. You get dizzy. Of course, these are symptoms of SERIOUS malnutrition - but your periods can be disrupted easily.
