is there a way to connect a laptop to my stereo. a home stereo. to listen to music a little louder??

It really kind of depends on the input connectors provided on your stereo. For instance, on my stereo receiver, I have RCA inputs (the more standard plug you see on the back of your TV for connecting VCR, DVD, video game systems), and simply use a 1/8" (headphone) plug to dual RCA (one white, one red--one each for left and right channels) plugs to hook up between the two. If your stereo has these RCA plugs, you can get a cable at Radio Shack or Best Buy for probably less than $10. If your stereo has auxiliary inputs with a different plug, you will need a different cable, but most stereos tend to rely on the RCAs for external input.
