Simply turn your camera upside down and try taking some pics that way. It repositions the flash and will produce surprising results. Sounds crazy, but it works.

Another trick.... Place a coffee filter or thin tissue paper over your flash. This softens the effect it has and helps to avoid glare and harshness.

Hope these things help.

Good luck.

Take a bright halogen light and point it at the object. Then take the picture. The flash should not be needed at this time sine the object has enough light.

Try 2 or 3 lights pointing at the object to get the best lighting.

Try putting a piece of tissue paper over the flash. It will help to defuse the flash. Some times it takes more than 1 piece to get the right amount of light. I use a rubber band to hold them over my flash.

The best way is to take it without the flash. Plus use a very good camera.

put a coffee filter over the flash when you take the picture. It filters out some of the light.

filter the flash

something as simple as taping a layer of kleenex tissue over the flash will reduce the glare.

you could also use a polarizing filter on the camera lens

No. Just don't use the flash. Why do you need another option?
