Most likely it was because his brothers had not yet become believers. Also, by the time of Jesus' execution, his foster father, Joseph, had expired. So Jesus entrusted his mother's care into the hands of John, the apostle he felt closest to.

It is assumed that by the time the crucifixion occurred that Joseph was dead. Jesus entrusted his mother to John because John was the disciple that he loved the most. Jesus wa correct in doing this. If you look at the general behavior of the disciples as a group, then you will understand why Jesus did not hand his mother over to them as a group---they could not agree on anything. John could be relied upon to look after her and provide for her the remainder of her life.

John was referred to as "The Beloved" disciple. John and Jesus were very close. In fact, some believe that Jesus may have permitted John to remain alive until His second coming (read the last chapter of the Gospel of John). John was more than likely younger than the other apostles since he wrote the last book of the New Testament (Revelation) and it was not completed until long after most, if not all of the apostles, were dead.

Joseph is not referred to later in the Gospels which gives one reason to believe that he was deceased. Tradition usually states that he was much older than Mary and that he was deceased at the time Jesus died on the cross and rose from the dead.

Jesus in all likelihood entrusted Mary to John because Joseph had died and there became no individual else to take care of her. we do not understand for efficient that Joseph became useless, besides the indisputable fact that it matches logically. As to the count number number of no matter if Jesus had brothers, the question is slightly extra complicated than human beings right here make it out to be. In French, there is the be conscious 'mothers and fathers.' it can propose your truthfully mothers and fathers, kin in most cases, or maybe close acquaintances. at the same time as the Bible states that Jesus' brothers were on the gate, it makes use of a be conscious very such as the French 'mothers and fathers;' that is, it can be translated both as truthfully brothers or as countless male kin. besides, the Bible never states no matter if Mary remained a virgin all her existence, yet early Christian custom holds that she did. finally, if Jesus did have brothers, why could he have had to entrust his mom to John? traditionally, it can were the pastime of the subsequent oldest. So i wager no individual is conscious for efficient, yet Catholicism concludes that he did not. for sure, there continues to be debate on the problem.

St. Joseph was not alive at the time. Also Jesus did not have any brothers since Mary is a Virgin. Jesus entrusting Mary into John's care has great importance to a Catholic. Mary , the Mother of God is offered to all Jesus's disciples (symbolized by John) by Jesus as their own Mother. A dying person's last wishes are held in the highest esteem. How much more the dying words of Our Lord who placed His Mother in our hands asking us to love Her as our own mother!

Mary, through Her Immaculate Conception took the place of Eve, to become the Mother of all mankind. She became the Mother of men at the moment She spoke Her "fiat", for then She became the Mother of Christ and His Mystical Body - the Church, that is of all of us. Christ confirmed this when He spoke to John from the Cross: "Behold thy Mother" (John 19:27).

While the Bible does not say in so many words, most Biblical scholars say that Joseph was dead by the time Jesus was crucified.

I am going to get a lot of thumbs down for this - we Catholics take the fact that Jesus asked John to look after his mother as scriptural support for our teaching that Jesus did not have blood siblings.

Why John as opposed to someone else? Sorry I do not know.

When the mother and brothers of Jesus came looking for him, Jesus said, who is my mother, brothers and sisters, they are these who hear the Word of God and do it..

There is only one that Jesus gave a memorial too, it was not his mother or his brothers, he told us not to call any man upon the earth father. it was the woman with the alabaster box.
The Mother of Jesus, said herself that she went looking for Jesus with Joseph and he said to her, you should have know that I would be about my father's work, but she did not understand niether did Joesph nor did John the disciple Jesus loved.

No one else was present at the crucifixion. Everyone else had run away.

Most Biblical scholars believe that Jesus' foster father, Joseph, had died by the time He started His ministry at the age of thirty.

With love in Christ.
