Does going door step to door step really work out for them? Or is it more of a waste of time? Percentages anyone?

I don't have a percentage for you, but I can honestly tell you that the number increases every year. On average, about 248,200people got baptized last year alone, and that number keeps growing every year.

I've always like going door to door. I really enjoy the ministry work done in New York. So many people respond with a receptive ear! Even here in SC people respond with respect. Even if they don't listen - which is fine - they are still respectful, and that's one reason I enjoy the ministry work so much. Of course we meet people who are just outraged at us even knocking on their door. But, different circumstances make people react different ways. So all in all, I still love it!

No theory. i comprehend that we don't save music of numbers like that. i easily am an "person convert" as you're saying. 28 years previous and getting dunked this summer season. Grew up no longer something, for many my early existence, than began going to a methodist church in my toddlers. began reading with the witnesses very almost 2 years in the past now. After my own bible examine, and examine into the Witnesses. could be exciting if there have been some stats like that nevertheless.

Since 11 new congregations are formed each week, I would say it is working, and has been for over 100 years. According to the Discover Channel, every religion has tried it at some point, but gave up. Even the Mormons, only the young men can be gotten to do it as a requirement for marriage.

About the JW congregations being formed, its a good example of how false it is to say that the elders are hiding anything from the members. Eleven new congregations means over 100 new elders are created a week. To hide something, you have to keep it exclusive to a small group of elder holding power over congregations with thousands of members. In the witnesses, all learn the same, so that anyone can serve as an elder when needed. Small congregation, small groups of elders, so that no secrets can be hid for long.

The percentage increase world-wide for 2006 was 1.6%
Combine that with nearly one and a half billion hours put in to achieve 248,327 baptisms and you can see how much time it takes to get just one convert. We have been told by JWs they would do this work even if no converts resulted; even if nobody listened. So their reasons for doing it should not be related to results, and they clearly don't think they are wasting their time.

A much more interesting percentage that JWs will not consider (publicly, at least) is that of defectors from the religion. 1% deaths from natural causes apart, there are almost as many baptized JWs going out the back door as those coming in the front. They are putting in phenomenal effort to do little more than stand still. Surely it's a waste of time to concentrate on incomers to the detriment of keeping existing members going?

A common misconception is that Jehovah's Witnesses go from door-to-door because they feel it is their duty to "recruit" a householder, or get him to "convert". In fact, Jehovah's Witnesses would go from door-to-door even if there were no hope that anyone would change their religion, or even if no one would listen to them!

That is because Jesus Christ specifically assigned the house-to-house ministry to the Christian congregation, with no regard for specific results.

(Luke 10:1,2) After these things the Lord designated seventy others and sent them forth by twos in advance of him into every city and place to which he himself was going to come. 2 Then he began to say to them: “The harvest, indeed, is great, but the workers are few. Therefore beg the Master of the harvest to send out workers into his harvest.

Jehovah's Witnesses are trained to direct attention to the bible, and move on when their message is unwanted. Since each congregation in the United States tries to call at every home in its territory at least twice each year, there is strong motivation for them to move on where little interest is shown. Also, the Scriptures help the Witnesses to expect little interest from most:

(2 Timothy 4:3-5) For there will be a period of time when they will not put up with the healthful teaching ...and they will turn their ears away from the truth, whereas they will be turned aside to false stories. You, though, keep your senses in all things, suffer evil, do the work of an evangelizer, fully accomplish your ministry.

The actual numbers worldwide for 2006 are:
Ave. Publishers 2005: 6,390,022
Ave. Publishers 2006: 6,491,775
Increase 1.6%
No. Baptized: 248,327
No. Bible Studies: 6,286,618
Memorial Attendance: 16,675,113 *
Number of lands: 236

*We will be having the memorial of Christ death on Monday April 2nd. All are invited to attend.

Further comment: Publishers are only those actively preaching, most going out the back door as commented are not active publishers, plus you do have to consider those who have died. So there is an increase with over 6 million studying the bible with witnesses. 10 million who took were interested enough to attend the memorial of Christ death.
You were asking if the door to door ministry works. I would say it does.

I just wanted to say that if only one person was interested in learning the truth it would not be a waste of time, but then that made me realize that even if no one was interested, we would still be proclaiming the name of God, Jehovah, so it is all worth while...

Ezekiel 38:23: "And I shall certainly magnify myself and sanctify myself and make myself known before the eyes of many nations; and they will have to know that I am Jehovah.’"

We have a work to complete as stated at

Matthew 24:14: "And this good news of the kingdom will be preached in all the inhabited earth for a witness to all the nations; and then the end will come."

We have a command to complete as well...
Matthew 28:19 and 20: "Go therefore and make disciples of people of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the holy spirit, 20 teaching them to observe all the things I have commanded YOU. And, look! I am with YOU all the days until the conclusion of the system of things.”

So regardless of what the world thinks of our ministry, we are doing it out of love for Jehovah God, his Son, Jesus Christ, and our neighbors. We won't stop until it is finished.

The world population is rough estimate of over 6,333,330,000.

Hence, some 6,300,000 persons today who are telling the good news of Jehovah’s Kingdom by Christ Jesus in over 230 lands feel that they properly refer to themselves as Jehovah’s Witnesses. "58 Consequently, my beloved brothers, become steadfast, unmovable, always having plenty to do in the work of the Lord, knowing that YOUR labor is not in vain in connection with [the] Lord."

8 The work of preaching the good news is not in vain. About 3,000 disciples were baptized at Pentecost 33 C.E. “Believers in the Lord kept on being added, multitudes both of men and of women.”
When opposition made it seem better for Paul to preach in another area for a time, he did so instead of forcing repeated confrontations with opposers. (Romans 12:18.)

But why do the Witnesses call repeatedly even at homes of people who do not share their faith?

In doing this they follow Jesus’ example. He went to the Jews. The Jews had their own religion, but in many ways it had turned away from the Word of God. (Matthew 15:1-9) All nations have religions of some kind, whether so-called Christian or non-Christian. It is vitally important for people to hold beliefs that conform to God’s own Word, and the efforts of the Witnesses to assist them in doing this constitute a showing of neighbor love. They do not force their message on others. But they know that people move to new residences and that the circumstances of people change. Today a person may be too busy to listen; another time he may gladly take the time. One member of a household may not be interested, but others may be. People themselves change; serious problems in life may stimulate an awareness of spiritual need.—See also Isaiah 6:8, 11, 12.

Ask all of the ones that hang around here how many people they convert. They are here to convert, so they can add all of these hours to their time sheets.

I always found going door to door to be ineffective, being that most people don't answer the door, and the ones that do get annoyed and impatient. I'm not a JW, but was raised as one. I hated going door to door.
