I assume that since this question is asked in the Religion & Spirituality, you are inquiring in that sense.
As for being able to use tools, language, learn, reason , feel emotion and moral conciuosness .....many creatures have been observed doing just that. All animals have us beat in some respects. We kill for reasons other than survival....religion, money, prestige, sport, hate, unrequitted love. How many chimps do that?
As humans, we definetly have the upper hand on most things.
However, in a spiritual sense I feel we might come from a common life force and despite our great intelligence are not superior to other living beings. Dominance is not superiority!!

An animal has needs and instincts, A human also has needs and instincts, the difference is that a human has a mind to think and differentiate between wrong and right, and make decisions based on thinking.
as for nowadays, there doesnt seem to be a difference between some people and animals, especially when they have had too much alcohol to drink or high on drugs!!these drugs take away thought from any person and leaves them senseless

humans have an opposable thumb. and an [opposable] ability to speak.
humans can make and invent things.. work for money to buy things which is helpful to the economy. children are a source of entertainment & comfort.. and debt.
while animals work for humans, and helpful to the economy., pets are a source of entertainment & comfort.. and debt.
humans have a choice about what they believe. animals know who's the boss.

Republicans will never acknowledge it...I'm sure the animals would all vote Democrat. Women would be allowed to marry their peanut butter loving mutts, and every business would be legally required to provide litter boxes and chew toys.
Give me a break!

Well, for one, our ability to form, invent and use language. Two, animals are a lower class being and were created for for man's needs and benefits. Also, potatos and peppers and onions just wouldnt have any company on the grill

We are the only creature on earth who can evaluate ourselves, decide to change and alter our own destinies.
Is there really any other creature like us in more ways than just anatomy, base instincts and survival?
People who say we are animals just say that becuase they don't know what else to call us. We are children of God.

We have adapted very well to the environments on earth. However, don't say that humans will always be so special. Dinosaurs once were the big number in town. Now, you have to go to a museum just to see their skeletons.

Define higher and define special. We're smarter but we're still animals.
