I've heard it debated a lot, but let's backtrack...is it important? If it is, and they do go to Heaven, shouldn't we offer every child the chance to be aborted? Wouldn't that be our duty? And if they don't, shouldn't America try to limit infant mortality, at least to the point that other industrialized nations have achieved, instead of spending money on nuclear arms? But maybe we just don't care if babies go to Heaven...I don't know.

My point is that people don't consider the sick consequences of their religious fantasies...just take comfort on the pillowy surface. Don't realize you're sleeping on razor blades, do you?

It would seem to makes sense, but in doing so, we're murdering babies, and murder is something God hates, so you really couldn't come to the conclusion that abortion should be okay based on that.

It does matter, to lose a child is horrible for the family. The idea that the baby is somewhere, being cared for and loved a much as he/she was, can offer a lot of comfort. I understand your question and reasoning, but unless you are a parent, there is no way to explain the importance of this to Christians. I'm not a Christian, but would never ever broach this subject in a debate because I am a parent and it would be cruel.

The original doctrine (George Carlin even cites it on one of his old albums, "Class Clown") was that babies who died generally were sent to limbo because "it wasn't their fault." This is what I was taught.

The Bible says that anyone born after Adam and Eve has original sin on them, passed on from those two. That means that all babies are born with original sin, which is only cleansed by baptism. Therefore killing them upon birth would leave them with sin on their souls but since they did not *choose* to die and had no chance to cleanse their sin or learn about it or anything, they get a semi-pardon.

I think we're all just supposed to pray for their souls. As Carlin says, I hope they upgraded those guys.
