I think you are the only person who can truly answer that. It may have been because you felt God's presence over you. Or it could have been because you have been holding things in your heart and locking them up because you wanted to seem in control of your life. Now that you found God, He has taken the key to your heart and opened up all the hurt, pain, and sorrow that you've kept locked up. Now you finally feel free, and you realize that you don't have to be strong all the time. God is there for you to lean on and He loves you so much! Whenever you need help He is always there for you. The past doesn't matter now. You are living a new life with Him. Crying is natural, and it helps get emotions out that we can't get out any other way.

When we are getting to know God He often makes His presence known in different ways. Sometimes we feel His compassion, or His glory, or His Power, His Love, and other things. It seems like you were being touched by Him, realizing just how great He is. The Holy Spirit is the One who opens your heart to the Word and Truth of God. Enjoy this time as a baby Christian, because soon you won't be feeling all these things and will have to walk by faith and not feelings.

i don't care whether you're a baby Christian or Billy Graham - that song can bring a tear to anyone's eyes. It's one of those great songs of the faith.
What's been common now among Christian circles is to take the Chris Tomlin song "How Great is our God" and couple it with "How Great thou Art."
And when you come to that realization about how great God is - how can tears not come to your eyes?

I've cried during that hymn also. You've had a spiritual experience. It is experiences like those that are the foundation of faith and testimony.

I've had that happen several times when I've received Communion.
I'm sure that what you experienced, while not very common, isn't all that unusual either.

Because you felt the presence of Jesus-don't let anyone convince you otherwise.
