If you are flat on the floor crunchs will not work. You need to have either an ab lounger, an exercise ball, or use an incline board so that you are able to arch back and restretch the muscles back out. Usually you are only crunches the top of your abs and completely missing the bottom and sides.

Also, if you are doing flat crunches, they work best if you hold your legs up in the air.

A big part of it is the oblique muscles which run up the sides. Rotating around helps that--like hula hoop, yoga, belly dancing.

A good workout for it is when you do your crunchs turn your legs to the side. It is as if you are sleeping in the fetal position, but don't lay them down on the ground--hold your legs about an inch off the ground. Feel that oblique to make sure it is doing the work. Do some crunches that way.

Another one is: standing up with a dumbbell in each hand. Lean to the side as if the dumbbell was pulling you down. This will work the back of the oblique but if you learn forward just a touch (back of dumbbell would be about the front of the leg instead of directly beside leg) you can feel it on the front side of the oblique too.

Also try adding a canoe to your routine. Sit down normally. As if you were just slowing lowerly to lay down flat on your back. Legs out in front of you, chest straight so you are almost flat, but keep chest and legs off the ground.

For each exercise you do, you have to stretch it back out. Raise right arm over your head and reach it as far to the left as you can go before your head gets in the way. The muscle has to both contract and stretch in order to get definition.

However I am sorry, however abs and 6 % are final in record and six pak is all striated grownup muscle and waste of time running it till you've got obtained it.
