This is a double-edged sword, you know.

The seperation of church and state that we enjoy is an extension of freedom of religion. On one hand, churches enjoy tax-exempt status, as long as they remain within the guidelines of their organization. On the other hand, churches are not allowed to come within arms length of politics.

The moment you begin taxing churches, they'll demand representation, the right to assemble, the right to lobby, the right to endorse, etc.

Since Christians make up more than 85% of America, we will become a theocracy in perhaps a decade. All we have to do is find a few basic things that all Christians agree on and they will become law. Jesus will become a big part of public education. God will be on every government piece of matter within the borders. The 10 commandments and the cross will be everywhere. Bible readings will be a regular event in every government proceeding.

If I were you, I would get on my knees tonight and thank God in heaven that we have a secular government with the PROPER seperation of powers.

Former Chief Justice John Marshall once said, "The power to tax is the power to destroy."
The first amendment begins: Congress shall pass no law respecting an establishment of religion, OR PROHIBITING THE FREE EXERCISE THEREOF; (emphasis mine).
Taxing churches violates at least one of the statements above.

If they are certified as a non-profit then they don't pay taxes. I think it is a 503(C) filing.
