Kayak isn't bad, but it doesn't search Southwest Airlines. A quick check on Southwest.com (which flies non-stop between LAX and MDW) yielded a price of around $240 for two weeks out.
I communted from Chicago to LA every week for a year and know the prices. $350 is ok if you have exact times and days that you need to hit, but awful if you have a little flexibility. Anything under $250 would be ok for you.

$350 is a great rate for flying form LAX to Chicago!

My suggestion is go directly to the airline website and see what they offer for that cheapest ticket. In other words, if you got your $350 price from Expedia, and it says that is offered by United Airlines, then go to United Airline's website for a direct quote. You'll probably save about 15 to 25 bucks.

Try the airline websites directly. Sometimes they are cheaper than the cheaptickets etc websites. Did you try different days of traveling or are you locked into say a Sat to Sat etc.
Did you try this website?

The best tickets I have ever gotten is through my travel agent. I go to all those online deals and my travel agent still gets me the best deal. Call a travel agent, you will be glad you did. In case you need to know - they usually do not charge and if they do it is only a few bucks.

well, In my opinion that is a pretty good offer for a flight But if you are trying to go any cheaper you might want to make your ticket a little further back!
HAVE FUN!

I found tickets from LAX-ORD on www.kayak.com for travel from April 20-27 for $239.00.

Kayak searches multiple websites for the cheapest price and lists all of them. In this case, the cheapest ticket was found on www.aa.com for $238.80.
