I was trekking for a number of weeks in Nepal, and at the end we went to eat at an Indian restaurant (Nepal sits right at the upper tip of India).
There were multiple waiters and they just brought out dish after dish after dish - all of it just excellent.
It wasn't my best meal ever though - I ate as an invited guest at a frat house for a friend I had been helping. It turns out their house cook was the retired head chef of the Waldorf Astoria, and he cooks for the frat house because he loves to cook for people but doesn't want the hassle of a working restaurant kitchen.
Everything he made was sublime.
But my restaurant of choice, if I make it out there, is in wine country in California, the French Laundry. I would almost make a trip only to eat there. One day I hope I will.

This amazing shrimp curry in Portugal. To start with they were huge - almost like lobsters, the actual meat bit was as big as my hand. The sauce was to die for and the rice had been cooked in stock, it was beautiful - i even asked for the recipie.
