It's said that cats have nine lives. But, really, come on. If a cat gets run over by a car, it's not going to get up. A cat lives as long as it can stay alive, or survive. Hope that this helps!

It depends on how they live, I guess. Indoor cats tend to live longer, more than 15 years.Outdoor cats live slightly shorter lives, 10 or so. We had a cat that was 17 when we finally had to put her down. Right now my parents have 3 cats, one is 5 years, one is 10 years, and one is 12. They're all doing very well, but they're also indoor only.

I had a cat that lived 20 years, but that is unusual. Most indoor cats last around 12 to 15 years.

Alot depends on quality of food, environment and if the cat stays indoors or goes out (indoor cats live longer). It used to be the average age was between 8-12 years old, but with updated veterinary information, cats can live as long as 35 years old (my eldest lived to 23).

The average age is now between 15-18 years old for an indoor cat at to about 6-7 for a cat that goes outside. Outdoor cats are exposed to many more hazards than indoor types, such as feline leukemia and feline AIDS from bites from feral (undomesticated) cats, rabies from squirrels, skunks and raccoons and of course death from cars, evil humans, dogs and foxes.

To keep your cat healthy, feed her good quality food (see links in sources), keep fresh water available at all times, and take her in to the vet once a year. Like humans, regular dental scaling (once every 3-5 years) keeps toxins from the mouth from getting into the bloodstream and contaminating the kidney and liver.

And, more importantly, give your cat plenty of love.

Anywhere from 10 to 20 years.

We have had cats live to be 16 and 18 (others have died young from injuries and animal attacks -- they don't count for old age). I know of some cats that are 20 and have heard of some cats living past 20 (but it is rare).

Outdoor cats generally live less than indoor cats.

Depends. Type of cat is a factor. It could live 10-25 years on average. My cousins had a cat that was 18 years old.
