Angels by definition are those souls who have already liberated... freed themselves from the cycle of birth and death. All those souls who became free after reaching the stage of enlightenment and salvation become angels.
All angels reside in the kingdom of God (aka Baikuntha in Hinduism). Every human being has the power to recall these angels by proper prayers. For the benefit of mankind and also vital personal help... these angels come and help human beings.

I don't think angels have souls. Angels are more like abstractions.

according to the bible only humans were granated souls... angels were never human so I assume they have no soul.
Since the soul is the "everlasting" part of humans that grant us eternal life in the kingdom of heaven and Angels do not have them that is what made Lucifer (the first angel) try to overthrow God because angels were god's first children and he was jealous.
Angels were never human... they are their own "species" hance you don't get to become an angel when you die.

yes it is called your spirit. It is written that upon death of this body our spirit (soul) goes back to the creator. It is then united with your angelic body which is solid like it is now. That is why it is written "fear not that can kill the body( spiritual or earthly) rather fear He who can cause your soul (spirit) to perish. Why? because once your spirit ( essence, self awareness, being ) is gone you no longer exist.

They are spirits without body. They reside in your brain as your conscience that oftentimes helps you decide to do the right things and help others in need whereby they will call you their angel.
