No worries, most gas stations on the Interstate are 24 hours.
The people suggesting truck stops didn't explain that most sell gasoline too - they serve both cars and trucks, and they have a full-on gas station specifically for cars, usually near the restaurant/store.
Anyway I-81 is a very dense area, you'll have no trouble finding gas. It's not like western Utah where, gosh, it can be 50 miles between 24 hour gas stations!

Sure. Most gas stations right on the interstate are 24 hour anyway, but there's always truck stops. Truckers drive all night, too!

Stop at the Dutch Diner right off I-81 in Frackville, PA. They have good food. It's open round the clock and there's gas stations there too.

Just don't get down to three cups of gas before you fill up. You shouldn't go more than 40 miles without hitting one.

You don't say where you'll be stopping but there are all nighters up through VA, WV and PA. Truck stops and Quick Marts...well lighted and safe. Good luck!

thank you all for your comments. I will be getting off in Richmond to go down through to catch 95 to go to Jacksonville NC that way does anyone know if there are tolls after that point ?
