I'm looking at buying a mk3 golf convertible. My old mk1 roof used to leak , soaking the seats when it rained. Just wondered if any one out there has a mk3 which lives outside and could let me know if theirs does.
Also is there anything else i should look out for when i go to buy one ?

I worked for VW for 4 years and appraised many mk3 golf's. With the convertible, however old, I used to thoroughly check the hood by trying to stretch it, if it did stretch this would give an idea to the amount of wear that had taken place...you can often 'follow' the stretch, that may lead to a weakness or tear in it. Also I used to look at the hood carefully, for any signs of wear or dry areas, a dry area could often mean a crack in it.
If you are considering buying one I would suggest you also ask the owner if there are any leaks and if they would be willing to put the roof up while you test it (you will need a handy hose for this) test, by hosing for at least two minutes, then check the inside (remember, some water will enter the car when you open the door!)
