I am partial to neutered male cats. Females have the reputation of being more aloof and independent than the males. And you will get many posts to the contrary.
I have one female cat now, 13 yrs old. She sleeps on my bed at night and usually crawls under the covers with me for snuggles. The "boys" are close to me on the couch before I go to bed, snuggling, just resting or being groomed.
So it isn't so much about the sex of the cat - it's about your relationship with it.

Fro my expierence, males are more cuddly. I have a female Himalayan mix(though she looks like a grey Somalia) She onlky wants attention on her OWN terms. If you pick her up when she doesn't want to be held, she leaves unhappy. I also live with 2 other female cats, and they are about the smae way. My sister has my cats brother (who looks like a Maine Coone) and he is a cuddler. So I would conclude male cats are nicer and sweeter even if they dont wont to be held, females can be really nice if it's on their own terms! :)

It really depends on the cat. I've had both male and female cats. Our first cat was a male - he didn't like to be held or pet by people, he hunted stuff and brought it home as gifts. Our second cat was female - she was a barn cat that we took in at an early age, she likes to follow you around and rub up against you. She'll let you hold her for a bit and will sleep with you. She snuggles when i'm sick, and checks up on me to make sure i'm still alive in the morning by jumping on my chest and sniffing my nose to see if im breathing. Our newest cat was a rescue. He's adorable, loves to play and will fall asleep on my brothers chest like a baby. He loves to be held and pet.
It really depends on the cats personality - if your looking to get one go to a shelter or adoption place and spend a little time with each cat. You'll find your match!

I have a male cat who is the most loving cat I've ever owned. My old female cat used to puke on people if she didn't like them. It was pretty funny. My male will crawl up on my shoulder and spend hours with me wanting attention. I think its more about the cats personality, than its sex, tho.

Typically male cats. But a lot depends on the individual disposition and personality of the animal. I had one male tabby cat that would "speak to me" (meows of course) and never bit or scratched me. If he was ever missing - I had only to look at the foot of my bed to find him curled up there (and he was always purring - if awake).
My sister recently had a female cat who never hesitated to sink her claws into you! She would even run up and attack people for no apparent reason. She ended up gaving her to a friend with a farm so she would have a place to be as wild as she dared to be!
My advice to you is to get a male cat (European tabbies are especially sweet). Make sure you spend enough time with the animal to see if it likes you as much as you like it. Sometimes people forget to take into consideration that animals have preferences too! LOL.
Best wishes in your search for a kitty! I hope you get one as sweet as my "Harrison".

A neutered male is the absolute best pet. However, since cats have individual personalities, I'd choose a cat for personality first, looks second.

Really it all depends. My female cat is a bit nicer than my male(although people like him more), but there are many places with hellish male cats, but sweet female cats, and vice versa. Also, your name is my female cats name. :P

I have found that male cats are a lot more affectionate and have a kinder disposition. Although I love my female cat, in my experience having cats through out my life, the girls are a lot more high strung and prone to drama.

I have had A male cat and a female cat. The male cat is more cuddly and lazy and the female cat liked to have adventures! she liked to cuddle but only cuddled with people she knew and if she didnt know them and they tried to pet her she would scratch them so i would say the male cat is more sweet and cuddly!
