I don't know you or your family but honesty is usually the best policy. You have selected one of the most honorable and selfless professions in the world. If you have made your decision and eventually execute it you will be one of the truly remarkable people in the world.

It will be difficult and dangerous but rewarding, too. Once you feel confident that you can answer any and all questions your family may have, tell them.

I suggest you study up, get yourself in the best physical condition you can before you go. It makes it easier. You will have an edge if you know what to expect before you arrive. Learn the Marine Corps terminology and study thinks like ranks, awards and ribbons. Learn who and how to salute. The more of this kind of thing you already know, the more time you have to spend on learning the things you don't.

first you only need to post a question once. then wait for an answer. you are in violation of the community guidelines.

second wait until your graduate you have two more years of high school and a lot of growing up to do. you may even change your mind about the marines

i recommend you always communicate with your parents on your future goals if that is what you want. Its good to keep people informed so that they are given the time to give you the support you want from them even if it take a little time to convince them of the idea to join such an elite group. shocking them with the this decision would only create a division if they are totally against it. at least telling now would only allow them more time to ponder on your choices. you are only getting older and then you will not have anyone telling you how to live your life so take the words of wisdom from those who love you and try not to take it personal if your ideas for yourself brings trials. communication and honesty is the key to life. good luck

I think you should go ahead and tell them this year. I am also a sophomore, and if i wanted to become a Marine, I would want my parents to know. If you tell them now it wont be such a shock. Good luck!

Mention it today...

"I'm thinking about the military as an option after high school. What do you think?"
