You're one of those people that want the government in control of EVERY aspect of our lives right?

is this about the law that might be passed saying that if a parent is caught smoking in the car with a child under the age of 12 they will get their child taken away and get a ticket? i talked to a police officer the other day about that and he said he hasnt heard of any thing like that so you shouldnt worry about it. but no i dont think that is fair at all. i am a smoker and the mother of a 4 month old. it is unfair to you as a person. if smoking is legal then i dont think that any one should be able to tell you that you cant smoke around your children. if you smoke at home then they are getting the second hand smoke any way, so what difference is it going to make in the car?

No they should not be stripped of parental rights or any other rights. They have already lost the right to smoke inside and more and more go outside to smoke at home. They are human beings just like the rest of us and if you were born in the 50's or 60's your parents more than likely smoked and it didn't have any lasting effects. So knock off the naievety. What are you doing practicing to be president or something?

OKAY... I think that it's truely unhealthy for a child to have to be subjected to smoke in a house or in a car. I have two wonderful little men and I smoked outside. I think it's not your call to tell a parent that they should have the parental rights stripped. I on the other hand think you should be supportive and maybe get some informartional DVD's or maybe some thing you look up on the net. I personal can't imagion smoking up my house or around my children. I don't smoke anymore but I do know that it can be extreamly harmful Maybe the parents haven't seen what it does to the children. Anyway you are going to get major flack on this comment. But I hope I've stated what you asked as well. BE SUPPORTIVE not negative.

It breaks my heart to see kids trapped inside of a car with a parent smoking, however I have met a lot of good people/parents who smoke, so really - who wins?

How would this really benefit our kids? The placement system is already overrun with kids they can't place, and there are not enough good foster homes for the kids we have. I think we should be more focused on finding homes for the children who are sitting in group homes right now than to worry about kids who are being cared for by a parent that smokes.

No way! Just because a parent smokes, doesnt mean they are horrible parents. If they smoke infront and around the kids, yes its wrong, bc the kids can get sick, but they shouldnt be taken away. Hopefully the parents have enough sense to realize its wrong, and stop.

Should parents be stripped of their rights when they take their kids to a restaurant and they start drinking alcohol? They have a few drinks and then get into the car to drive home? Double standard? I think not.

Its horrible, that they would even think of smoking near their kids after all the evidence! but, just cuz they smoke, does not mean they are bad parents. I know a lot of loving parents, who smoke! its just that they are freakn stuborune and hard headed!

Ps. I have bad asthma, and had it worse, when I was yonger. My mom still allowd people to smoke in thehouse, she even smoked somtime! and eventhough I was sooo sick, I would not want the governemnt to had taken me away!
I have a daughter now, and no one is allowed to light up in my house!! when I send her to my moms, I inspect my kid, and if she smells like ciggs, I dont let her over there for a while!

Are you kidding??? Well while I don't think they should smoke in their house why would you strip a poor child from their parents and put them in a foster system that is a lot more screwed up then a parent smoking near their child!!! I personally know a lot of mom and dads that smoke and some of them are probablly better parents than your one sided mind excuss of a person would ever be!!! I feel sorry for your kids...growing up with such predjudice!!!

you think so? whats next, microwaves cause cancer, lets take kids away from parents who have one. what about a parent who drinks with their kid at home, uses pesticide in their garden? how about if they have a pool in their backyard? there are millions of harmful things that our children will be exposed to, but the most important thing is keeping family values. how do you think 10, 3, 15 yr old would feel if someone to them from their parents for smoking a cigarette? you dont have kids, do you?
