what causes the gums around the teeth to turn black?

There could be many causes from bruising to cancer and anything in between. See a dentist or your doctor asap.

Gum Disease. . .which can become serious. You need to go to your dentist and get it checked out.

maybe you dont brush your gums when you brush your teeth. that can cause it.
