How an 8 yrs old kid has access to heroin? In my opinion you need to get a hold of children's service right away.

There's really nothing you can do yourself to help break the addiction. This child not only needs help now, but will need lifelong support to stay off heroin and other drugs.

I agree that you need to call children's services. If an eight-year-old can access and become addicted to heroin, and the parents aren't dealing with it, you really have no choice. As hard as it may sound, if that's the case, the child would be better off away from the parents. The child's life is at stake here. If you don't know how to proceed, call the police. They'll know what to do and help you. If you're concerned about the consequences of "turning them in," the authorities will keep your identity private. Nobody ever need to know it was you.

Wow. Good luck on this. This child is lucky to have you care about him or her.

I really hope the child isnt yours.

Rehab and DCF.

Seriously if the child is addicted to drugs and the parents are not doing anything or are on drugs themselves then they are unfit and shouldnt be permitted to have children.

Heroin is a very damaging drug and hard to break people from. Lots of people have fallen back on the habit of using. There is no easy way of breakig the habit.

Since they are 8, and not an adult yet, granted you are their guardian, you can take them to a physician to be treated. They'll most likely be given another drug called Methadone, which is used to treat drug addiction. But if you are not their guardian, I would recommend telling who is. This is a serious problem, and they will need all the help and the support they can get.

If this is for real, i'm shocked, though maybe i shouldnt be...

if this is your child, get them into treatment post haste.
if this is your neighbor's child or a friend or family member's child... you have two options:
talk to the parent if they are responsible enough to deal with it and if you are comfortable doing so. urge the parent to do something about their child's problem. if they do not, proceed ot option two.
second -- if it doesnt work to talk to the parents or if the parents aren't close enough to you, or if they are addicts themselves, the best thing to do is to call social services PRONTO.
like, now.
they will know how to handle it. and they can take action to save the child's life.

Contact your local department of health and human services or child welfare office and REPORT this to the proper people. No 8 year old should be enduring this without hospitilization.
If you are nervous about turning this over to authorities due to not wanting to be involved, it can be anonymous.
Good luck!

You can't actually be serious and if you are there parents should be locked up and the child should be taken somewhere safe. At eight years old one should not have access to drugs.
